Job description

SUMMARY: Leads the design and development of new and existing company products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design company products using SolidWorks or other engineering software
  • Create engineering drawings for use in proposals and manufacturing
  • Create bills of material and routings for use in cost estimates and manufacturing
  • Ensures customer requirements are met through parts design, validating testing, and failure analysis
  • Perform Lead Engineer role for assigned sales orders including customer interaction, vendor communication, and project management as required
  • Procures materials needed to construct prototypes and supervise the design engineering of new models
  • Plans and develops test programs for prototypes
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if designs meet functional and performance specifications
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and recommends cost improvement ideas through product, vendor, and design changes
  • Performs technical analysis of competitive products
  • Provides support to sales and marketing on product presentations and customer support
  • Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no direct supervisory responsibility, although individuals in this position will assign projects, set design expectations, and perform other tasks to ensure consistency and standardization within the department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proven professionalism, management, and leadership skills is required
  • Industry knowledge of the application of company products
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and collaborate with others inside and outside the company
  • Ability to work in and promote an atmosphere of teamwork and mutual respect
  • Proficient with SolidWorks CAD software
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to perform fundamental engineering calculations employing software or by hand
  • Experience in material handling, conveyor systems, and equipment design is preferred
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering field and 10-15 years’ experience in material handling or conveyance equipment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Strong verbal and written communication skills and speak effectively before groups of customers and employees. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings / electrical schematics.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Proficient in algebra and geometry as is required to solve engineering problems.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
SolidWorks experience in detailing and designing preferred. Must be proficient at Microsoft Office products and possess adequate skills to navigate and work with company’s ERP software.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. Employee spends some time on shop floor. Most of the time will be spent sitting in front of a computer and using the phone.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most of the time, the work environment is a pleasant, temperature controlled, professional office environment in a manufacturing setting. Personal workstation may be located on 2nd floor. The employee works in the office but does have frequent interaction with personnel on the shop floor. The noise level in the work environment is mixed but does not require hearing protection in most areas.
