Job description

Patent Attorney (CS and EE)
Shumaker amp; Sieffert is looking for experienced patent attorneys who are also, at heart, tech nerds. If you love digging into how things actually work and you can write clean, defensible patents, youโ€™ll fit right in.
We work with some of the best tech companies in the world, helping protect meaningful innovation. You can work in our Woodbury, Minnesota office, but remote positions are also available if that fits your life better.
Who we're looking for:
We need attorneys who understand the technology at a deep level, not just at the buzzword level.
You should have:
  • Two years of patent preparation and prosecution experience.
  • A bachelorโ€™s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering.
  • Experience or strong knowledge in one or more of the following: generative artificial intelligence, cloud storage systems, virtualization, operating systems, databases, software define vehicle architecture, wireless communications (5G/6G).
  • A law degree (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • USPTO registration is strongly preferred. If youโ€™re not registered yet, you must at least have an eligible technical degree.
Why work with us:
Weโ€™re a mid-sized patent prosecution firm that focuses on high-quality patent work for some of the best technology companies in the world. Our team is experienced, technical, and serious about getting the details right. We respect deep expertise, good judgment, and clear writing.
Weโ€™re large enough to work on meaningful projects but small enough that you won't get lost in a crowd. We care about doing good work, treating people fairly, and building long-term relationships โ€” with our clients and with each other.
If you want to work with people who know the technology, value real skill, and keep things straightforward, youโ€™ll probably like it here.
Compensation:
  • Salary ranges from $130,000 to $240,000 and is based on a billed rate system.
  • Profit sharing and generous benefits package included.
  • The salary range listed in each job posting represents the minimum and maximum targets for new hire salaries across all locations. Actual compensation within this range is determined by various factors, such as experience, billing rate, and production.
Benefits include:
  • 401(k) with employer contributions
  • Health insurance + HSA with firm contribution
  • Dental and vision coverage
  • Paid parental leave
  • Short-term and long-term disability
  • Life and accidental death insurance
  • Employee assistance program
  • Paid time off
