Job description

The Delaware office of Kaufman Dolowich, a full-service National Law firm with more than 250 attorneys across 16 offices and over 25 practice areas, is actively seeking a Business Litigation Associate to join the team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced litigators on sophisticated business and civil litigation matters in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. Our attorneys receive meaningful hands-on experience, direct client interaction, and strong mentorship while representing businesses, insurers, professionals, and corporate clients in a broad range of complex disputes.

Associates are given the opportunity to take an active role in all phases of litigation, including case strategy, motion practice, depositions, court appearances, mediations, and trial preparation. The ideal candidate will be a motivated attorney who is eager to develop litigation skills, assume increasing responsibility, and build a successful long-term practice within a growing national law firm.

Practice Exposure

Our Delaware office handles a diverse range of sophisticated litigation matters, including:

  • Directors & Officers (D&O) liability
  • Insurance coverage litigation
  • Employment litigation
  • Professional liability defense
  • Civil rights litigation
  • Real estate disputes
  • Commercial and contract litigation
  • Complex business disputes 

Responsibilities

  • Assist with all phases of complex civil litigation from inception through resolution
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, legal memoranda, and discovery responses
  • Conduct legal research and prepare persuasive written advocacy
  • Manage and coordinate discovery, including e-discovery
  • Participate in depositions, court appearances, mediations, hearings, and other litigation proceedings
  • Communicate directly with clients and provide strategic guidance and regular case updates
  • Collaborate closely with attorneys across offices and practice groups on complex litigation matters
  • Handle sophisticated and high exposure matters with professionalism and attention to detail 

Qualifications

  • Admission to practice in Delaware required
  • Minimum of 3 years of civil litigation experience, preferably in defense litigation, commercial litigation, or complex business disputes
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
  • Experience managing discovery and e-discovery processes
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced litigation environment
  • Strong organizational, case management, and interpersonal skills 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Admission to the Maryland and/or Washington, D.C. Bar
  • Commercial litigation experience
  • Experience handling depositions, motion practice, mediations, and court appearances
  • Commercial bankruptcy experience is a plus
