PAY RANGE

The Target Pay Range for this position is $199,300.00-$243,800.00 annually. The full Pay Range is $155,200.00 - $288,000.00 annually. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance based and targets vary by role.

As Director of Technology - Core Banking, you will play a pivotal role in aligning technology strategy with business goals while driving the delivery of enterprise-scale initiatives. You will help shape the future of core banking technology by advancing platform modernization, supporting digital transformation, and promoting modern architecture practices across Cloud, Data, APIs, and DevOps.

This role will oversee technology roadmaps, manage engineering and delivery teams, and implement agile practices. Responsibilities include identifying innovative solutions, managing projects, and leading a high-performance team.


This role is accountable for end-to-end delivery execution across enterprise core banking platforms, driving modernization program discipline, cross-team sequencing, and dependency management to improve delivery predictability and transparency.

To join our dynamic team, we require candidates to be residents of WA,OR,ID, AZ, TX, GA, SC, NC,CAor VA.Ifyou'relocatedin Washington state and within a reasonable driving distance from Tukwila, we arerequestingthat you come into our HQ on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.For those candidates that live outside the commute distance of TFC and in any of our approved remote work locations, this role will be remote. WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Technology Strategy & Business Alignment: Develop and maintain a deep understanding of business processes, priorities, and challenges to provide strategic technology leadership and build compelling business cases aligned to organizational goals.
  • Technology Delivery Oversight: Lead technical requirements, engineering efforts, and delivery execution for core banking initiatives while advancing agile practices and technology lifecycle management.
  • Roadmap Development: Manage collaboration with business units to develop specific technology platforms and co-create aligned technology and business roadmaps to meet strategic, operational, and tactical goals ensuring alignment of core banking initiatives with enterprise delivery plans and sequencing
  • Innovation Leadership: Serve as a trusted subject matter expert by identifying innovative market solutions and leading the development of RFPs, business cases, and project charters for strategic initiatives.
  • People Leadership & Development: Coach, mentor, and develop team members, fostering a culture of performance, accountability, and continuous growth through regular feedback and performance evaluations.
  • Engineering Excellence: Drive improvements across the software development lifecycle with a focus on quality, automation, code standards, testing, and modern CI/CD practices.
  • Program & Project Leadership: Lead and/or oversee projects being delivered to assigned business areas and manage the life of projects, with accountability for end-to-end delivery of enterprise core platform initiatives while advancing platform modernization objectives
  • Execution Management: Own delivery execution across enterprise programs, ensuring effective sequencing, dependency management, and coordination across multiple teams and workstreams.
  • Governance & Delivery Discipline: Establish strong governance practices, delivery frameworks, and execution rigor that create consistency, transparency, and predictable outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Provide leadership across governance forums, initiative reviews, planning sessions, and business partnerships while proactively managing delivery risks and dependencies.
  • Operational Planning: Participate in the development and execution of annual operating plans and strategic technology priorities.
  • Financial Stewardship: Ensure technology initiatives are appropriately planned and funded, including consideration of infrastructure costs and long-term investment impacts.
  • Vendor & Partner Management: Review vendor contracts and Statements of Work (SOWs), while overseeing external partners and implementation resources supporting technology initiatives.
  • Product & Delivery Partnership: Collaborate with stakeholders to define roadmaps, optimize feature delivery, and ensure technology investments deliver meaningful business outcomes.
  • Performance Measurement: Establish and track OKRs and KPIs that align teams to strategic objectives and measure progress toward desired outcomes.
  • Industry Awareness: Stay informed on emerging technologies, trends, and best practices to continuously enhance organizational capabilities and decision-making.
  • High-Performing Team Culture: Build and cultivate a collaborative, agile, and quality-focused technology organization that values innovation, learning, and continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of people leader experience. Experience leading technology teams including leading delivery teams with accountability for execution outcomes and program performance.
  • Minimum 8 years of information technology experience with demonstrated expertise in application design including exposure to large-scale platforms or program delivery.
  • Domain experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and/or Infrastructure/Operations and/or financial products (i.e. Core Banking, Credit Card, Mortgage, Auto Loan, Deposits, etc.)
  • Experience building technology platforms and teams with experience driving end-to-end delivery and cross-team coordination.
