Remote Board Governance involves overseeing nonprofit organizations' strategic direction and compliance, often requiring governance training. In contrast, Remote Nonprofit Program Coordinators focus on managing specific programs and projects remotely. Both roles are vital in the nonprofit sector but differ in responsibilities and required expertise.

What is remote board governance?

Remote board governance refers to the practice of conducting board meetings, decision-making, and oversight activities virtually, rather than in person. It allows board members to collaborate and fulfill their responsibilities using digital tools such as video conferencing, secure document sharing, and online voting platforms. This approach enhances flexibility and accessibility, enabling board members from different locations to participate effectively. However, it also requires careful attention to cybersecurity, communication practices, and legal requirements to ensure transparency and compliance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Remote Board Governance, and why are they important?

To thrive in Remote Board Governance, a strong understanding of corporate governance principles, risk management, and strategic oversight is essential, often supported by experience in executive leadership or board certification (e.g., NACD, ICD.D). Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms, board management software, and secure document sharing systems is typically required. Excellent communication, critical thinking, and collaboration skills make a board member effective in a remote environment. These competencies are vital to ensure informed decision-making, regulatory compliance, and effective leadership across dispersed teams.

What are some common challenges faced in remote board governance and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in remote board governance is maintaining effective communication and engagement among board members who are not meeting in person. This can lead to misunderstandings, reduced participation, and difficulty building trust. To address these issues, organizations often use secure, collaborative platforms for meetings and document sharing, establish clear communication protocols, and schedule regular virtual check-ins. Additionally, setting clear agendas and expectations helps ensure productive discussions and decision-making despite the remote setting.

Job Overview
This Associate Director will sit within the Data Management organization and at the center of how IQVIA Digital scales data-driven products securely, compliantly, and efficiently. The Governance and Data Management Operations Enablement lead is responsible for operationalizing data governance and compliance requirements, along with setting clear operating models, repeatable processes, and practical enablement across Data Management and the enterprise.
As a highly visible, cross-functional leader, this role partners closely with Data Management, Product, and Information Governance to ensure data use, documentation, and compliance practices are consistently executed without slowing innovation. The role also serves as the primary representative for IQVIA Digital in enterprise data governance forums, helping shape standards that support both regulatory rigor and product velocity.
Key Responsibilities
Governance Leadership & Representation
  • Serve as the primary IQVIA Digital representative on enterprise data governance committees and boards
  • Lead data governance and compliance initiatives in close partnership with IQVIA Information Governance
  • Ensure consistent application of data governance, compliance, and documentation standards across IQVIA Digital data management and products

Operating Model & Enablement
  • Develop, implement, and document cross-organization operating models, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Business Requirement Documents (BRDs), workflow diagrams (e.g., Lucidchart), and governance frameworks
  • Create, standardize, and operationalize Data Use Agreements (DUAs), Data Dictionaries, Data Catalogs, and related governance artifacts
  • Drive operational efficiency through standardization, clear documentation, and scalable enablement practices

Executive Communication & Knowledge Management
  • Own and evolve the Data Management SharePoint site as the authoritative source for design, processes, and documentation
  • Develop high-quality, executive-ready materials for senior leadership, governance committees, and external stakeholders
  • Translate complex technical and regulatory concepts into clear, actionable guidance for cross-functional teams

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience spanning data management, data governance, compliance, data-driven operations, website design, program management, or related disciplines
  • Experience operating in regulated environments such as health, pharmaceutical, life sciences, and/or ad-tech
  • Strong working knowledge of data governance frameworks, regulatory requirements, and enterprise compliance practices
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with Data Management, Product, GTM, Leadership, and Information Governance teams
  • Exceptional ability to operate in highly matrixed, cross-functional environments and influence without direct authority
  • Demonstrated strength in executive communication, processes, documentation, and stakeholder management
  • Exceptional organization and execution skills, including effective prioritization, critical thinking, stakeholder management (up and down), and strong accountability ownership
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
