Overview

Lifeway is seeking a skilled Content Editor II to develop and edit for preschool curriculum and short-term studies for kids. In this role, you will ensure every resource is theologically sound, biblically accurate, and aligned with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000 - equipping churches with content they can trust. You will partner with authors, ministry leaders, and cross-functional teams to shape resources that foster meaningful Bible study experiences. This is a high-impact editorial role for someone with deep theological knowledge, strong writing instincts, and a passion for serving the Church.

This is a remote position in the U.S. with occasional travel to Nashville for in-person team gatherings. #LI-Remote 

Responsibilities
  • Lives out Lifeway's mission and values, showing deep commitment to Kingdom work
  • Perform substantive editing to ensure theological accuracy, biblical fidelity, and alignment with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000 across all assigned resources
  • Edit nuanced or doctrinally sensitive content with care, enhancing clarity, tone, structure, and instructional flow
  • Create original content, significantly rewrite or adapt writer submissions, and contribute to outlines, teaching frameworks, and product structure
  • Apply Lifeway style and grammar standards, make copyfitting decisions, and ensure excellence in readability and accuracy across formats
  • Collaborate with Production Editors and designers to support high-quality, on-time delivery across print, digital, and multimedia channels
  • Build relationships with assigned authors, contract writers, and contributors - providing constructive editorial guidance to sharpen their theological clarity and instructional effectiveness
  • Engage with ministry leaders and church practitioners to understand audience needs, emerging trends, and real-world ministry challenges that inform editorial decisions
  • Conduct targeted research to strengthen biblical, archaeological, theological, or contextual accuracy within resources
  • Mentor and support other editors on editorial processes and theological alignment
  • Participate in planning meetings, ministry conversations, and cross-team discussions to contribute editorial insight and advance divisional goals
  • Limited travel: 2-4 times per year, typically overnight
Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Education, Childhood Development, English, Biblical Studies, or a related field (required)

Master's degree in Education, Theology, Biblical Studies, or a related field (preferred)

Advanced graduate degree (PhD, etc.) (not required)

Skills, Knowledge, & Experiences, required

  • 3+ years of editorial or content development experience
  • 3+ years of preschool and/or kids ministry related experience (part-time church staff, teaching ministry, volunteering or similar)
  • Editing expertise across manuscript review, theological accuracy, and instructional design
  • Strong editorial judgment aligned with Scripture and the Baptist Faith & Message 2000
  • Clear written and verbal communication when partnering with authors, contributors, and cross-functional teams
  • Attention to detail and ability to independently manage multiple overlapping editorial projects
  • Content creation skills including original writing, rewriting, and curriculum framework development
  • Digital literacy and familiarity with publishing workflows across print and digital formats
  • Actively involved in an evangelical Christian church
  • Knowledge of Southern Baptist church culture and ministry structures
  • Ability to travel to the Middle Tennessee area 2-4 times annually for team gatherings
