Job description

Summary:

This full-time teacher is responsible for providing classroom instruction for Bible at the secondary level and helping students develop a biblical worldview in all areas of life. The goal is to help students internalize what it means to live as a Christian in regards to school, family, work, relationships, and every other aspect of life.

The duties of the Christian school teacher can be both rewarding and challenging. Classroom sizes are often smaller and more easily managed. However, the workload is heavier because the teacher is often teaching more material, with fewer prep periods. Ultimately, this extra work is worthwhile because teaching in a Christian classroom allows the teacher the freedom to address the holistic needs of the child (i.e. spiritually, mentally, physically, and emotionally).

  • Understanding current spiritual conditions through surveys, focus groups, and formal/informal conversations with students.
  • Develop systematic spiritual milestones for student spiritual growth stemming from education at GCA (i.e. students update formal testimonies).
  • Create spiritual milestone opportunities that confront students with their spiritual condition and make it relevant to their everyday lives (i.e. student discipleship/ leadership, bible studies, etc.).

Spiritual Resources. The teacherwill work with the administration to develop spiritual resources for students, parents, and teachers.

  • Providing and encouraging student use of spiritual resources like personal Bible study, Bible study tools, RightNow media, and the development of peer accountability groups
  • Providing families with resources that confront cultural messages and articulating a Biblical approach to the development of children (i.e. blogs, books, and videos on technology; family nights on certain topics).
  • Utilizing data from the spiritual milestones section to equip teachers to permeate Biblical concepts in an authentic and engaging manner.

Extra-Curricular Activities. Accepts a shared responsibility for extra-curricular activities as assigned.
