Job description

Job Title: Float Teacher

Reports to: Early Learning Programs Director

Classification: Full-time, hourly, non-exempt, year-round

Position Description: The Float Teacher is actively involved in all classrooms in Calvary Early Learning. This position assists and cooperates in a supportive role to classroom teachers and substitutes in classrooms for planning, sick and vacation time. The hours are varied between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

  • Operate as an accountable, authentic, caring, collaborative, team-first staff member, encouraging, praying for and building up co-workers, volunteers, congregants and guests.

  • Be intentional about oneโ€™s spiritual growth and development.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality care to children ages 12 weeks to 5 years.

  • Work with classroom teachers in the daily running of the classrooms.

  • Be flexible to accommodate daily schedule changes.

  • Supervise classroom aides.

  • Foster relationships and communication with children, families and staff.


Tasks and Expectations:

  • Classroom coverage when a teacher or aide is absent
  • Provide prep time to classroom teachers
  • Be familiar with tasks of the aides and kitchen assistants
  • Positive and effective communication with staff and parents
  • Be aware of and uphold Calvary Early Learnings philosophy and practices
  • See a need - Meet a need.
  • Be familiar with schedule and weekly changes
  • Warm and caring relationships with all children
  • Be able to seek out and accept feedback from classroom teachers about the workings of each classroom - honor and follow the systems that are in place.
  • Be prepared to be outside in all weather with all ages


Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Have a minimum of 2-year degree in Early Childhood or related field

  • Pass a background study

  • Participate in an orientation program

  • Be a Christian role model for children, parents and other staff

  • Complete the appropriate number of in-service hours each year

  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions and family events

  • Maintain a neat and clean physical appearance

  • Able to see, hear, think and move quickly to supervise children safely

  • Able to lift and carry children (maximum of 60 pounds)
