JOB TITLE: Substitute Teacher/Teacher Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Calvary Christian Academy
REPORTS TO: Principal and Assistant Principal
STATUS: Temporary; Hourly non-exempt
HOURS: As needed, on-call
LOCATION: Calvary Christian Academy, all campuses

Our vision is to reach our community and change our world. As a Minister and staff member, it is not only what we do, it is also who we are.
Purpose Statement:
The CCA substitute teacher/teacher assistant plays a vital role in furthering the mission of Calvary Christian Academy and will work in the capacity for which they are hired. As a teacher substitute, the individual will teach, train, lead, guide, and follow the lesson plans to properly educate the grade level(s) in their care. As a TA substitute, the individual will follow the lead of the teacher and fulfill all the tasks, which they are assigned. These could be clerical tasks, supervision tasks, and class coverage tasks as needed. As a substitute, the individual must take ownership of the assigned role so that students are always well supervised and taught per the provided plans and or well assisted as in the role of TA.
Scope:
The position is multifaceted in that the individual takes on the tasks of another staff member who is absent. As a substitute, this person is in constant contact with children, school staff, parents, and church staff.
The person who holds this position must be ordained, commissioned, or licensed as a Minister of the Gospel. The CCA substitute teacher/teacher assistant is a Minister of the Gospel in accordance with the requirements for licensure in Calvary Chapel’s Ecclesiastical Practices Manual. As a Minister, this role plays an important part in furthering the religious mission of Calvary Chapel.
Specific Responsibilities:

  • Teaching Students with provided lesson plans
  • Following CCA Staff regulations, guidelines, procedures
  • Providing a safe environment for kids
  • Assisting teachers with required tasks, duties, and class coverage
Qualifications/Skills/Gifts:
  • A love to teach as unto the Lord and lead/live by the Word.
  • Willing to live a life above reproach and that is aligned with our Leadership Covenant
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with regards to colleagues, substitutes, and students.
  • Love for children and a desire to see that they have a right relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Organized and flexible with people, schedules, and good at following schedules.
  • The patience of the job, with a calm spirit.
  • Love to serve the Lord in all areas of life
  • Be able to lift 40 lbs.
  • Able to bend, and be flexible around kids.
  • Bachelor's Degree (substitute teacher) or past three years of experience working with children (substitute teacher assistant).
  • Ability to lead and communicate with children
  • Ability to multi-task and become easily oriented
  • The ability to be “with it” and monitor groups of children with a positive disciplinary approach
  • Ability to be flexible and open to coming at the last minute and filling the gap where needs are evident
