The Opportunity

RCG is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator to support a federal government customer in a fully remote environment. This role is ideal for a seasoned IT professional who enjoys managing enterprise infrastructure, maintaining highly available systems, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver secure and reliable technology services.

Although this position is 100% remote, travel to the customer's Washington, DC location may be required for meetings, planning sessions, or operational support, as needed.


What You'll Do

Systems Administration & Infrastructure

  • Administer, configure, maintain, and optimize Windows and virtual server environments.
  • Manage physical and virtual servers, workstations, storage, and infrastructure appliances.
  • Monitor system health, performance, capacity, and availability across the enterprise environment.
  • Perform routine system maintenance, upgrades, patch management, and lifecycle planning.
  • Implement and maintain system hardening and security best practices.

Operations & Support

  • Troubleshoot complex hardware, software, networking, and operating system issues.
  • Perform system backups, disaster recovery testing, and data integrity verification.
  • Maintain high system availability through proactive monitoring and rapid incident response.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operating procedures, and system diagrams.
  • Collaborate with engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and application teams to resolve infrastructure issues.
  • Support infrastructure modernization initiatives and continuous service improvement efforts.

Reporting & Process Improvement

  • Develop operational dashboards and reports to monitor infrastructure health and performance.
  • Identify opportunities to automate administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Recommend infrastructure enhancements to improve reliability, scalability, and security.

What We're Looking For

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelors degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible Systems Administration experience in enterprise environments.
  • Experience administering Windows Server operating systems and enterprise Active Directory environments.
  • Experience supporting virtualized environments such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Experience with enterprise backup and recovery solutions.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems.
  • Experience with patch management, system monitoring, and infrastructure performance tuning.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a distributed team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal government IT environments.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 administration.
  • Experience with PowerShell or other automation and scripting tools.
  • Experience supporting enterprise storage solutions.
  • Microsoft, VMware, or cloud certifications.
  • ITIL Foundation certification.

Work Environment

  • Full-time position.
  • 100% Remote.
  • Travel to the customer site in Washington, DC may be required, as needed.
