JOB SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Lead, Cashier/Remittance Processing, the Cashier receives and records payments from patients or responsible parties for hospital services rendered. This includes payments received over the counter and payments received in the mail. Payment can be made by paying with cash, check or credit card. The cashier posts the payments to the appropriate encounter and prepares receipts for over the counter payments. Cashier maintains and balances the cash drawer. Cashier post and balances receipts daily and prepares bank deposits. Cashier is responsible for registering cash-related operations to make sure no error is made, payment processing, as well as results of transaction with customers. Cashier is responsible for receiving and maintaining records of patient valuables. The above is to be performed in the best interest of the hospital.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS


Education: Completion of a high school diploma required. College level courses preferred.


Licensure: None


Experience: Previous work experience in a position meeting and communicating with the public. Prefer 1 to 2 years cashiering experience, including knowledge of insurance payment methods and remittance advice processing with the ability to recognize appropriate adjustment/discount amounts is necessary.


Skills: Ability to work under conditions of frequent interruption. Poise, tact, and cooperation are necessary when dealing with the public. Attention to detail, initiative and judgment involved in classifying financial data appropriately and maintaining flow of work. Work must be completed very rapidly and accurately. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word. Proficient in Excel as this spreadsheet is used for daily balancing. Must be able to demonstrate competence in basis math concepts.


PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to work in a fast paced, high volume environment. Must maintain accuracy during periods of continued interruptions.
