Job Title: Project Manager

Job Description

This role offers an opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to lead capital and facilities projects, with a plan to convert the position to a full-time permanent role. You will manage multiple projects simultaneously, typically ranging from small facilities remodels and asset replacements to capital projects valued between $250,000 and $5 million. The position requires strong project management capabilities, the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, and the judgment to plan, prioritize, and organize a diverse workload. A mechanical or engineering experience and experience in biopharma research labs are highly desirable, as you will support complex technical environments and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Provide reliable, timely, and professional project management support for multiple concurrent projects and assignments.
  • Manage capital projects and facilities initiatives, including small facilities remodeling and asset replacement projects in the $250,000 to $5 million range.
  • Support project executives by coordinating day-to-day project management activities and ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Develop clear project scopes and detailed schedules for assigned projects, ensuring all stakeholders understand deliverables and timelines.
  • Identify and address areas of concern related to project risk, including logistical issues, budget constraints, and scope changes.
  • Coordinate and track all vendor Requests for Proposals (RFPs), ensuring competitive bids and compliance with project requirements.
  • Interact and negotiate with contractors and subcontractors to secure favorable terms and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Prepare and update project status reports, process invoices, and maintain accurate tracking reports and project documentation for due diligence and financial purposes.
  • Actively track project performance against schedules and critical paths, taking corrective action to keep projects on track.
  • Coordinate the activities of subcontractors and manage the relocation of technical functions as required by project scope.
  • Maintain a proactive focus on meeting client and project requirements in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure a safety plan is in place for each project and promote a safety-first methodology in all project activities.
  • Assist the local Project Development Services team in meeting Adjusted Gross Margin (AGM) targets at regional and national levels.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use and application of Project Development Services technology and tools required for assigned projects.
  • Travel to project locations as required to oversee work, meet stakeholders, and ensure successful project delivery.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 4 to 7 years of relevant work experience in architecture, engineering, or construction management.
  • Proven experience in project management or construction management, including managing capital projects.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize a diverse workload while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to prepare, manage, and track project budgets effectively.
  • Strong understanding of technical requirements for construction and renovation projects.
  • Familiarity with architectural and engineering drawings and the ability to interpret them accurately.
  • Ability to adapt and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, both in team settings and when working independently.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively with architects, contractors, client representatives, and team members.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for project documentation, reporting, and analysis.
  • Mechanical experience or mechanical systems understanding that supports work on technical facilities and capital projects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Engineering degree, particularly in a relevant discipline, is highly desirable.
  • Project experience in biopharma research labs or vivarium environments is preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as LEED, AIA, PE, and/or PMP are advantageous.
  • Experience managing projects in the $1 million to $2 million range or higher, especially capital projects involving facilities remodeling and asset replacement.
  • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to use project management technologies and tools within a Project Development Services environment.
  • Interest in transitioning from a contract role to a full-time permanent position, with a planned conversion after initial engagement.

Work Environment

You will work in a dynamic, fast-paced project environment that involves coordination across multiple locations and facilities. Projects typically include small facilities remodeling, asset replacement, and capital improvements in technically complex settings, such as mechanical systems and potentially biopharma research labs or vivarium spaces. The role requires regular use of project management tools and the Microsoft Office Suite for planning, tracking, and reporting. You will collaborate closely with architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders, often balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
