Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated Excavation Project Manager to oversee civil earthwork, site development, and underground utility projects in the Northern Michigan region. In this role, you will be the primary lead driving projects from pre-construction estimating through execution, field operations, and final delivery. You will manage field schedules, project budgets, material procurement, and maintain strong client relationships to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. (Willing to help with relocation for the right candidate.)

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Estimation: Conduct thorough project assessments, evaluate blueprints, compute accurate material takeoffs, and generate comprehensive cost estimates for bidding and budgeting purposes.
  • Project Execution: Lead and manage multiple excavation, grading, and site-development projects simultaneously from inception to completion.
  • Financial Management: Develop and track project budgets, forecast costs, manage change orders, and optimize profitability.
  • Scheduling & Logistics: Coordinate labor, heavy equipment logistics, and subcontractors to maintain precise project timelines.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce OSHA and company safety standards on-site to ensure a zero-injury working environment.
  • Client & Stakeholder Relations: Act as the primary point of contact for developers, general contractors, engineers, and municipal inspectors.
  • Technical Review: Interpret blueprints, earthwork takeoffs, grade designs, and technical specifications to guide field crews.

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of project management experience specifically within civil excavation, earthwork, or heavy highway construction.
  • Strong proficiency in reading site plans, grading blueprints, and utility drawings.
  • Experience with estimation software (e.g., AGTEK, B2W, or HeavyBid) and project management platforms.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record (required for company vehicle use).
