Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE: Assist in management of staff and customers at a multi-function recreation facility to include swimming pool, racquetball courts, meeting/activity rooms, gymnasium, weight room, climbing wall, aerobics room, other leisure facilities. This facility is over 72,000 square feet and hasย  an average of 1000 guests visit daily.

Wheat Ridge islocatedon the ancestral homelands of Native peoples who lived on and stewarded this land long before its incorporation. During the 1859 Gold Rush, theCitywasarest stop for miners and later named for its golden wheat fields. As unsuccessful miners turned to farming, the area thrived with orchards, vegetable fields, and later, greenhouses, earning the title โ€œCarnation City.โ€ Incorporated in 1969, Wheat Ridge now offers a central location with easy access to Denver and the Rocky Mountains. Itoperatesas a home-rule city with a council-manager government, where the elected council sets policy, and the manager oversees daily operations and budgeting.ย

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons visiting or contacting Wheat Ridge recreation facilities.
  • Responds to facility complaints referring unusual situations to Recreation Supervisor-Facilities.
  • Responsible for recreation facility operation, maintaining facilities in a clean, neat, safe manner, maintaining discipline in assigned areas.
  • Handles routine requests with building vendors/contractors including janitorial, electrical, and property management (i.e. building temperature, lighting, equipment failures).
  • Work closely with aquatic staff to allow for a coordinated, professionally managed facility.
  • Assist in facility supervision of locker room(s), meeting/activity room and fitness room. Generally assigned to work the front counter or other control areasย  of the Recreation Center.
  • Assist with the pre-school registration, childcare registration, and have general knowledge of recreation programs and recreation center operations.
  • Perform related work as required and assigned by the appropriate Facility Coordinator. Respond to emergency situations.
  • Must use online scheduling software to accept work assignments and maintain availability.
  • Responsible for writing incident reports in the event of injuries or property loss.
  • Responsible for daily cash control operations, opening/closing, patrolling facility.
  • Facilitate class registration in RecTrac registration system including trip registrations.
  • Reconcile money received with general ledger report; process activity refunds, transfers, and household credits.
  • Perform room set up and tear down as needed; perform basic light janitorial duties of facility as required.
  • Perform related work as required and assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience related to facility operations is preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Adult and Pediatricย CPR, AED, and first Aid certificationย through the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or equivalent is required upon hire.
  • Knowledge to use office equipment, facility and equipment operations, first aid techniques and basic math.ย 
  • Working knowledge of recreation operations and philosophy.
  • Ability to learn the computerized registration program, RecTrac and operate it with intermediate knowledge and understanding of the software.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Effectively handle emergency situations, follow rules concerning facility operations such as usage policies, emergency procedures, personnel supervision, revenue receipt, and accounting.
  • Awareness and ability to react to unusual or suspicious activity or people that may cause potential harm or danger and take appropriate action.

HOURS OF WORK, LOCATION, AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: This is a part-time position and hours will vary depending on facility needs. Work is primarily performed indoors involving lifting, bending, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, climbing, walking, and hearing.ย  Requires the ability to move tables, chairs, volleyball standards and occasional lifting and carrying of objects weighing less than 24 pounds.ย  Must be able to work in an environment where noise and interruptions prevail. The ability to verbally communicate in a clear and concise manner is essential to this position. Interaction with the public and co-workers is an everyday occurrence requiring multi-tasking and ability to direct, negotiate, and mediate.
