Job description

Description Our Outdoor Recreation Team is seeking qualified applicants with an interest in facilitating great customer experience at our outdoor facilities. This role will primarily support Bond Park Boathouse and Cary Action Sports Park. The Boathouse offers paddleboat, canoe, kayak, and fishing boat rentals, while Cary Action Sports Park provides opportunities for BMX, skateboarding, scootering, and roller skating.

Candidates must be available to work varying shifts, including afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on facility needs. Primary work will take place on weekends from April through November, with additional weekday shifts available. This is a year-round, non-benefited position that will work up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.

Typical Tasks Facility Operations & Maintenance Open and close facilities daily, ensuring security and equipment readiness. Unlock, clean, prepare rental equipment for use, and perform light maintenance of equipment and park areas. Conduct daily safety inspections and ensure cleanliness of all equipment, docks, ramps, and park areas, including rental equipment, beach/dock areas, and the course.

Customer Service & Public Interaction Provide information on park rules, regulations, and safety practices, and ensure compliance and maintain a safe environment for visitors. Assist customers with rentals, ensuring a positive experience and safety. Process payments and registrations through RecTrac software.

Administrative & Park Support Perform administrative tasks, including reporting to supervisors and handling customer inquiries. Support park operations by assisting with events, programs, and general maintenance tasks. Complete other job-related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities General knowledge of park and facility operations, including both boat rental and action sports areas. Familiarity with cash handling procedures and retail sales. Knowledge of safety protocols, regulations, policies, procedures, and services related to the Boathouse and Action Sports Center.

Skill in operating common office equipment and software (e.g., RecTrac). Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with the public. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating initiative when needed

Ability to enforce safety protocols, monitor activities to ensure compliance, and respond calmly to emergency situations. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications Education and Experience. Requires candidates be at least 18 years of age and a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.

Requires a CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain one within 6 months with supplied training.) Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following: Some experience working in a park or community center setting, particularly in a staffed facility working in a park or community center setting. Some experience in action sports or boating. Physical Requirements An employee must be able to talk, hear, and see

An employee must also be able to move freely in order to visit activity sites and handle equipment. Visual acuity is necessary in order to read and write handwritten and typewritten materials. An employee must be able to perform in inclement weather conditions and lift up to 30 lbs on a routine basis and 60 lbs on an occasional basis.
