POSITION: Purchaser - New

STATUS: Full-Time; Monday to Friday

REPORTS TO: VP of Finance & Operations

START DATE: As soon as possible.

SALARY: $70,000 - $90,000 / year.

EFS-Plastics Inc. is a successful, growing recycling company that recovers plastic from residential recycling programs. Your detergent bottles, milk jugs, and plastic bags all end up at EFS, where we turn them into plastic resin pellets that can be used to make new products.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and coordinating the timely delivery of raw materials, production supplies, maintenance parts, packaging materials, and services required to support manufacturing operations. This role works closely with Production, Maintenance, Inventory Control, Shipping, Finance, and suppliers to ensure materials are available while maintaining cost effectiveness, quality standards, and inventory targets.

The Purchaser plays a critical role in maintaining uninterrupted production by proactively managing supplier relationships, monitoring inventory levels, negotiating pricing, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement within the procurement process.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Procurement & Purchasing

  • Purchase raw materials, packaging, maintenance supplies, equipment, tools, and consumables required for daily operations.
  • Generate and process purchase orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor inventory levels and replenish stock to maintain established minimum and maximum inventory levels.
  • Source new suppliers and evaluate vendor capabilities based on quality, price, service, and delivery performance.
  • Obtain competitive quotations and negotiate pricing, payment terms, and contracts.
  • Ensure purchased materials meet company quality specifications.

Supplier Management

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance regarding quality, cost, delivery, and responsiveness.
  • Resolve supplier issues involving shortages, damaged goods, quality concerns, or late deliveries.
  • Conduct periodic supplier reviews and identify opportunities for cost savings.

Inventory Management

  • Work closely with Inventory Control and Warehouse personnel to maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Analyze purchasing trends and forecast material requirements.
  • Minimize excess inventory while preventing stockouts.
  • Participate in regular inventory counts and reconciliation activities.

Production Support

  • Coordinate purchasing activities to support production schedules.
  • Communicate potential supply chain disruptions to management.
  • Expedite urgent material requirements when necessary.
  • Collaborate with Production and Maintenance teams to ensure operational continuity.

Cost Control

  • Identify cost reduction opportunities without compromising quality.
  • Monitor market pricing and availability of raw materials.
  • Track purchasing metrics and supplier performance.
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting activities.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation.
  • Ensure purchase orders match invoices and receiving documentation.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and ethical purchasing practices.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes.
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend inventory optimization strategies.
  • Assist in developing standardized purchasing procedures.

HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Purchaser is responsible for:

  • Following all company health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Wearing required PPE while in production or warehouse areas.
  • Reporting hazards, incidents, and near misses immediately.
  • Participating in safety meetings and required training.
  • Promoting a safe workplace through proactive hazard identification.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Purchasing, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
  • SCMP designation or progress toward certification is considered an asset.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in plastics manufacturing, plastics recycling, industrial manufacturing, or a related industry is preferred.
  • Experience purchasing raw materials, maintenance parts, and production supplies.
  • Experience working within an ERP/MRP system.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Primarily office-based with frequent visits to manufacturing and warehouse areas.
  • Exposure to noise, forklifts, machinery, and varying temperatures while in production areas.
