We are looking for a talented School to Work - Purchasing student to join our team specializing in Purchasing for our Cummins Inc. facility in Troy, MI. This role will primarily support the North American Steel Purchasing team. Not only will you provide valuable support to the purchasing team, but gain insight into manufacturing and the steel industry.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Cost Reduction: By creating Request for Quote bid packages, you'll help drive cost reduction activities, contributing to the company's financial efficiency.
Smooth Transitions: Supporting transition activities into Cummins processes will ensure seamless integration and minimal disruption to operations.
Order Management: Regularly maintaining and updating Oracle purchase orders will keep the procurement process efficient and accurate.
Global Supplier Network: Researching and creating supplier add forms will expand and diversify the company's supplier base, enhancing global sourcing capabilities.
Cross-Functional Support: Assisting with the requisition process for cross-functional teams will streamline operations and improve collaboration across departments.
Team Assistance: Providing support to Team members as needed will foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Process Improvement: Your involvement in these activities will help identify opportunities for process improvements, driving overall efficiency.
Data Accuracy: Ensuring accurate and up-to-date information in all your tasks will enhance decision-making and operational effectiveness.

The primary role of the School-to-Work - Purchasing position is to support the direct Purchasing team as needed on a multitude of programs, updating procedures, working with cross-functional internal and external customers and suppliers. The student will, at the same time, gain real world experience and education in the field of material management and data analytics in a business-to-business environment.
  • Assist the purchasing manager and buyers with day-to-day tasks
  • Prepare RFQ packages and support quote analysis, technical reviews and supplier selection
  • Track and update monthly raw material indices
  • Validate pricing and update purchase orders
  • Support buyers in resolving invoice and payment discrepancies
  • Analyze and maintain supplier data
