Job description

Fred Smith Company is a leading heavy civil contractor working in the commercial sitework, public infrastructure and asphalt markets in North Carolina and is currently searching for a Scheduling Manager for our management team in Raleigh. The Scheduling Manager will report to the Vice President of Preconstruction & Resources. This position is responsible for overseeing the training, development, and analysis of Construction Scheduling for the entire organization. The successful Scheduling Manager candidate will:
  • Have broad experience and a thorough understanding of heavy civil construction scheduling
  • Be a self-starter
  • Be able to work well in a team setting as well as demonstrates the ability to work independently
  • Have good judgement and attention to detail.
  • Be a hands-on team player who isn't afraid to creatively solve problems.
  • Be capable of developing complex schedules with little supervision
  • Be able to meet critical deadlines and lead/mentor others in a positive team environment

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the training, coordination, and supervision of Scheduling for the entire organization.
  • Support Project Teams in development of baseline project schedules and progress updates to project schedules. For more complicated projects, more involvement in creating schedules may be required.
  • Mentor, train, and support project teams to have a good understanding & development of construction schedules and the use of construction scheduling software
  • Perform cost and resource loading of schedules to support accurate forecasting.
  • Analyze multiple company short-term and long-term project & resource schedules to ensure alignment.
  • Provide senior leadership with monthly resource allocation schedules/reports to assist in managing overall company resources (crews, equipment, materials, etc).
  • Plan and lead monthly resource schedule meetings with senior leadership.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in scheduling processes.
  • Proactively support project teams by monitoring project progress, tracking performance, and adjusting schedules as necessary.
  • Proactively collaborate and communicate with project teams and leaders to understand, manage, and mitigate risks to schedule, budget, resources, etc.
  • Collaborate with Preconstruction Team to assist on development of construction schedules to submit with bid proposals.
  • Ensure company safety policies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, & all OSHA and any state level agencies regulations are enforced.

Required Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to anticipate potential schedule delays and implement solutions.
  • Strong initiative and problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with a primary focus on collaboration.
  • Must be highly organized, detail oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities and projects effectively.
  • 3-10+ years of prior scheduling experience in the construction industry.
  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in construction scheduling software and project management tools. Primavera P6 is preferred.
  • Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid estimating software or equivalent program for Civil Estimating.
  • Specific experience working on civil/site construction estimates in Commercial / Private / Residential fields is preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current scheduling industry standards and practices.
  • Valid drivers license with positive driving history.
