Job Summary

Jet Industries is seeking a motivated Fire Sprinkler Apprentice/Trainee to join our growing Service team. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a long-term career in the Fire & Life Safety industry and grow into a Fire Sprinkler Service Technician position through hands-on training and certification development. The Apprentice will work alongside experienced technicians and foremen, assisting with fire sprinkler inspections, service, repairs, installations, and related fire life safety work while learning industry standards, NFPA codes, and field best practices.

Duties & Responsibilities for Fire Sprinkler Apprentice / Trainee:

  • Assist with fire sprinkler inspections, service, repairs, and minor tenant improvement tasks.
  • Support installation work, including measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, and hanging pipe.
  • Stage tools, materials, and equipment for daily work activities.
  • Assist with fire extinguisher service, testing, and replacement.
  • Assist with backflow testing and repairs.
  • Complete reports, service documentation, and required paperwork on time.
  • Ability to participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.
  • Maintain daily communication with the Service Manager, Dispatcher, and other Fire Service Technicians regarding job status and scheduling.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and job site safety requirements.
  • Learn NFPA codes, fire sprinkler systems, and industry standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, tools, and company vehicle.
  • Participate in ongoing training and certification programs through Jet University and field mentorship.

Required Qualifications & Skills for Fire Sprinkler Apprentice / Trainee:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Safe work habits and strong attention to detail.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
  • Basic knowledge and safe use of hand tools and power tools.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to stay organized and follow directions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic proficiency in English required for safety communication and jobsite coordination.
  • Ability to work occasional night shifts, weekends, or alternative hours as needed.

Preferred Qualifications for Fire Sprinkler Apprentice / Trainee:

  • Previous construction, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, or fire sprinkler experience.
  • Experience working with black steel or CPVC piping.
  • Familiarity with blueprints, stock lists, and inventory.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 10, NFPA 13, NFPA 13D, NFPA 13R, and NFPA 25.
  • Fire sprinkler installation or service experience.
  • Portland or Washington Fire Sprinkler Fitter Card.
  • Backflow testing certification (OR/WA).
  • Portland Fire Extinguisher Certification.
