Job description

Leidos is seeking a Project Controller who is motivated by variety, is seeking a challenging environment for professional growth, and is interested in supporting large information technology projects for our Utility Technologies Solutions team. In this role, you will be driving the execution and delivery of IT projects for our electric utility client. Additionally, you will ensure the successful delivery of projects while adhering Leidos' Mission, Vision, and Values.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Project Controller / Project Analyst to support a large-scale SAP modernization program. This role is ideal for an early-career project professional with experience in project financial tracking, reporting, vendor coordination, and PMO support within enterprise technology environments.

As part of the project controls team, you will help drive financial visibility, reporting accuracy, and operational coordination across multiple SAP workstreams. You will work closely with Project Managers, Finance, vendors, and PMO leadership to ensure project financials, invoicing, reporting, and project data are maintained accurately and delivered on time.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to grow within a fast-paced enterprise PMO environment while gaining exposure to large-scale SAP transformation initiatives.

Location: This position is based in Newark, New Jersey. Qualified candidates must reside within a commutable distance and be able to work onsite at client offices three days per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Track and maintain project financials, including budgets, forecasts, actuals, commitments, and spend analysis.
  • Support monthly financial reporting, variance analysis, and ad-hoc reporting requests for project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Process and track vendor invoices using SAP Ariba.
  • Partner with vendors, procurement teams, and project managers to ensure timely invoice approvals and accurate financial reconciliation.
  • Maintain project tracking tools, dashboards, and status reports using Smartsheet and Microsoft Excel.
  • Assist with project forecasting, estimate-to-complete (ETC) updates, and financial data validation.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze project data from multiple sources to support decision-making and reporting needs.
  • Prepare executive-ready reports, presentations, and project summaries.
  • Support PMO governance processes, documentation, and reporting standards.
  • Monitor project risks, action items, and financial impacts across assigned workstreams.
  • Coordinate with project teams to ensure data accuracy and timely status updates.
  • Assist with meeting coordination, documentation, action item tracking, and follow-up activities as needed.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, MIS or related degree. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 2-4 years of experience in project coordination, project controls, financial analysis, PMO support, or project analyst roles.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP Ariba for vendor invoicing and financial tracking.
  • Experience using Smartsheet for project tracking, reporting, or coordination activities.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including reporting, data analysis, and financial tracking.
  • Experience using VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and other advanced Excel functions is highly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience working within a large enterprise project or PMO team environment.
  • Exposure to PMO processes, project financial controls, or enterprise governance environments.
  • Experience working within utilities or other regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with project budgeting, forecasting, and resource tracking concepts
