The Opportunity with McKinstry
McKinstry is looking to add a Program Manager to our growing Seattle Shop division. The Program Manager is responsible for full program lifecycle execution; from NPI to Award through Closeout for select programs. This role serves as the key customer interface and liaison to internal McKinstry stakeholders.
This role is accountable for program Scope, Schedule, Quality, Cost, Risk, and Customer Satisfaction. To achieve this, the Program Manager ensures financial forecasts, contracts, technical scope, capital, materials, manpower, and production plans are communicated and executed through the Shop Network organizational structure. Throughout the program lifecycle the PM reports performance to customers and internal stakeholders.
Core Responsibilities include:
Program & Customer Management
Serve as the primary point of contact for internal McKinstry and external Shop customers on all matters related to Scope, Schedule, Quality, Cost, Risk, and Customer Satisfaction.
Develop strategies and plans to ensure safe, on-time, on-budget delivery with high customer satisfaction.
Manage the full program lifecycle from award through closeout, including job start, execution, and project closeout materials.
Communicate program status, risks, and mitigation plans to customers and internal leadership.
Align customer expectations on capacity, delivery schedules, contract terms, and conditions.
Lead and facilitate customer-facing meetings with structured agendas and documented follow-up actions.
Project Operations
Ensure capital, materials, manpower, and production plans are in place to meet customer demand.
Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and scopes of work; define responsibilities across teams.
Identify resource requirements and develop manpower plans in coordination with shop superintendents, foremen, and leadership.
Capture and deliver on customer Quality Requirements: including Configuration Management, QA/QC flowdown, documentation packages, and RCCA.
Monitor progress toward goals, anticipate potential problems, and drive corrective actions proactively.
Provide shop leadership with insight into anticipated capital and resourcing requirements.
Project Controls & Financial Management
Assume full financial responsibility for assigned programs, including accurate, timely, and relevant forecasting and reporting to stakeholders.
Evaluate bid estimates, develop cost codes, and establish definitive budgets.
Monitor, control, and report on financial performance; deliver accurate and timely forecasts.
Prepare and negotiate client and subcontractor change orders; maintain change order and RFI logs.
Facilitate invoices, intercompany billings, and payments from clients and to subcontractors; review and approve subcontractor billing.
Assess job cost impacts and ensure all material and equipment is purchased in a timely, cost-effective manner.
Draft subcontracts and purchase agreements as required.
Cross-Functional Coordination / Craft Team Engagement
Clear roadblocks and maintain regular communication with Shop teams to ensure program execution.
Coordinate, influence, and align cross-functional teams including Supply Chain, Shop, Engineering, Quality, Safety, and Commercial.
Define individual project responsibilities; establish and lead associated team meetings.
Support business development by responding to RFPs and assisting in the bid process as needed.
Assess safety risks and implement actions to prevent injury to people and property.
KPI & Continuous Improvement
Identify process improvement opportunities and partner with the operations teams and customers to develop and implement solutions.
Track and manage shop production KPIs including schedule adherence, manpower utilization, productivity, quality, and throughput.
Continuously improve reporting cadence and accuracy for both internal and customer stakeholders.
What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry:
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or Manufacturing. Relevant experience may substitute degree requirements.
5 years of progressive experience in project management, manufacturing operations, or construction; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated proficiency in project controls or manufacturing operations leadership.
Skills & Abilities
Strong operational or project leader with proven ability to drive results across cross-functional teams.
Strong interpersonal skills - ability to relate and build rapport with Craft teams.
Ability to lead external client-facing meetings, facilitating effective discussions.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, standards, and specifications.
Basic estimating skills; ability to estimate change orders and scope impacts.
Ability to manage outside vendors and subcontractors effectively.
Capable of working independently and managing multiple complex projects.
Knowledge of applicable codes required.
Technical Proficiency
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Proficient with scheduling software: Microsoft Project, Primavera, Viewpoint, Stratus.
Knowledge of manufacturing and construction financial programs and software.
Lean Manufacturing.
Certifications Desired

The pay range for this position is $75,870 - $128,900 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
