Job description

Responsibilities

The Manager, Transportation is responsible for management of transportation staff and the monitoring of safety and maintenance of vehicles and equipment, in order to maintain smooth operational functions.  Physical attendance at an InnovAge facility and/or an InnovAge participant home is essential to performing the job duties.

InnovAge Drivers provide transportation for our frail and elderly participants from their home to our Day Centers and appointments during the day and for field trips as part of the activities program. They deliver in-home meals and provide delivery and pick-up of supplies and medications for participants in addition to performing pre/post trip inspections. 90% of InnovAge's participants/passengers are COVID vaccinated. 

Administrative- 60%

  • Informs Fleet Management regarding resource availability and scheduled availability or vehicles out of service.
  • Schedules bus drop-off and pick-up at all maintenance and repair facilities.
  • Assists Dispatchers and the Director of Transportation in their daily activities by providing information regarding overtime, PTO schedules, resource availability and any relevant information for operations.
  • Plans, schedules and assigns the Driver's daily duties such as; medication and supply distribution and pre/post - trip inspections. Provides relief coverage for Drivers as needed.
  • Schedules van maintenance in a timely manner.
  • Assists Dispatchers in their daily activities as needed, including providing relief coverage as needed.
  • Ensures training for new drivers; as well as training current drivers on new equipment, routes and other developments.
  • Coordinates scheduling of participant rides with the dispatcher.
  • Trains new and current drivers on new equipment, routes and other necessary information to insure smooth operations.
  • Performs ride-a-longs on all Drivers to ensure proper handling of all safety procedures.
  • Investigates accidents and/or incidents and ensures completion of all necessary documentation and notification.
  • Reports relevant data regarding transportation issues from the Center to the Director of Transportation in a timely manner.
  • Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team (IDT) and the Center Leadership.
  • Attends Center Morning, Care Planning and Leadership meetings on a regular basis, providing representation to the Transportation department as a whole. Passes information from the (IDT) to the Drivers and vice versa.
  • Investigates accidents and/or incidents and ensures the completion of necessary documentation and notification(s).
  • Functions on call for after hours as assigned.
  • Participates within the interdisciplinary team in the formulation of Plans of Care for InnovAge PACE program participants, as well as in other interdisciplinary team settings that plan, coordinate and monitor the care of InnovAge PACE program participants.
  • Additional work functions and duties may be assigned

Supervision - 30%

  • Effectively supervises and manages direct reports and provides, by example and leadership, motivation and direction to employees of the organization.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable state and federal employment laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recognizing and rewarding employees; corrective disciplinary procedures and practices (under direction of supervisor and in partnership with HR), addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ensures annual employee performance reviews are conducted in a timely and effective manner. Evaluates performance of employees for compliance with established policies and objectives of the organization and contributions in attaining objectives.
  • Helps set the tone of the department to ensure morale, team work, and that the positive employment culture of the organization is maintained.
  • Regularly schedules leadership/management, department, and staff 1:1 meetings to provide leadership, development, and a forum for communication to ensure coordination and collaboration in meeting organization and individual goals.

Driver - 10%

  • Functions as an on call Driver as assigned or as needed, and ensures that all Total Longterm Care vehicles are driven in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Loads and unloads participants in and out of IGCP vehicles and assists participants into and out of their homes.
  • Assists participants with simple tasks in their home environment such as assisting with putting on of outerwear and moving participant's personal belongings when needed and as appropriate.
  • Transports participants to requested appointments arranged by the Dispatcher for certain date and time.

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Logistics Management or equivalent work related experience in lieu of degree
  • Requires state issued Class C driver's license, good driving record and to be at least 21 years of age.
  • Strong management skills and at least four (4) years' experience in supervising staff in the Transportation industry or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED

  • One year of health care experience working with a geriatric population 
  • Bi-lingual
