What is it like to work for a company that protects those who protect us? At BAE Systems, we take pride in delivering effective and dependable products and services that earn the trust of our customers. We are currently seeking experienced Program Engineering Managers (PEM) to join our team.
The PEM for the Mk 45 (UK and Norway) is a hybrid position based in Minneapolis, MN or Louisville, KY. You will be responsible for the Mk 45 product line produced for the United Kingdom and Norway, including the Mk 45 Mod 4A gun system, the Ammunition Handling System (AHS), and Medium Caliber Ammunition (MCA), as well as support services of those products.
As the PEM, you will ensure all program efforts are fully supported by the engineering organization. You will partner with Program Management to execute all contracted technical scope, including production support, Technical Data Package (TDP) maintenance, obsolescence management, and shipbuilder support for hardware installation and testing. You will cultivate strategic relationships with technical counterparts at the MOD and with end-users. Additionally, you will support Business Development, Capture Management, and Program Management in identifying growth opportunities and transitioning winning proposals into program implementation, serving as the primary technical point of contact for capture efforts.
Key Responsibilities
The PEM will provide guidance and leadership for all technical activities during the execution and capture phases, including:
  • Completing all technical scope in accordance with the program baseline.
  • Overseeing installation and test support activities in the United Kingdom.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with technical counterparts in the UK and Norway.
  • Identifying and assessing business growth opportunities and leading subsequent capture activities.
Primary Duties
  • Technical Leadership: Lead the engineering team in planning and executing all program tasks; provide direction, mentorship, and decision-making support to Integrated Product Team (IPT) Leads and staff.
  • Execution: Manage program milestone reviews and contract deliverables to ensure all products are delivered on time and meet customer expectations.
  • Problem Solving: Anticipate and resolve technical challenges while ensuring inter-group cooperation to meet program objectives.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure strict adherence to engineering processes, systems engineering design, and company product safety policies throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Lifecycle Management: Plan and direct Life Cycle Management (LCM) across all program phases.
  • Talent Development: Motivate, evaluate, and mentor engineering staff to foster professional growth.
  • Controls: Implement robust Program Monitoring and Controls (PM&C) to maintain scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Communication: Provide timely status updates and progress reports to the Guns PEM, Program Managers, and customer stakeholders.
  • Representation: Deliver presentations to management and customers regarding marketing, cost, schedule, and technical/contractual status (requires occasional international travel).
  • Physical Requirements: This role requires regular presence in a manufacturing or fabrication environment. The incumbent must be able to access and safely navigate production areas which may include climbing, kneeling, stooping, and working in confined spaces. Must also be able to comply with all requirements including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with company policy.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline and 8 years of engineering/technical experience. May consider additional experience in lieu of degree.
  • Experience leading technical staff to address issues associated with complex systems.
  • Demonstrated experience driving technical decisions using sound understanding of engineering fundamentals or concepts.
  • Effective communication through technical writing and technical presentations.
  • Experience with customer/stakeholder communication, management and relationship building.
  • Ability to support approximately 15% travel to include international travel.
  • May consider candidates with additional experience for a more senior role.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Mk 45 or related product knowledge and experience.
  • Experience overseeing projects using EVMS.
  • Current Secret Clearance.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $132962 - $226035
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
