About The Position:

The Peer Support Specialist shall perform the services below under the general direction of the Prince George's County Department of Corrections and the direct supervision of the Rebirth Substance Use Treatment (RSUT) Program Clinical Coordinator and Behavioral Health and Wellness Services Section Chief:


Meet with substance use treatment professionals to establish treatment plans.

Provide coaching and emotional support for clients, individually and during support group sessions.

Connect clients with resources related to housing, employment and additional treatment.

Help clients manage appointments with substance use or mental health professionals.

Report concerns about health and safety to other members of the care team.

Assist the Clinical Coordinator with maintaining accreditation program standards and preparing for the accreditation survey.

Write recovery reviews to update client files and maintain appropriate HIPAA compliant electronic health records and case files and for all clinical cases.

Willingly and conscientiously adheres to the established County Employment Code of Ethics, the ACA codes of ethics and to diligently and responsibly uphold the Countys high standard of customer service.

Willingly and cooperatively tasks and duties assigned which may not be specifically listed in this contract but are within the occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employees class of work.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from high school, supplemented by college level coursework in business, psychology or sociology.
  • Six (6) months experience in work requiring independent action based on mature judgment.

Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • A minimum of two years of recovery from lived experience in substance use and/or co-occurring mental health disorders.
  • Certified as a Peer Support/Recovery Specialist in the state of Maryland by the Maryland Addictions and Behavioral Health Certification Board (MABPCP).
  • Experience working with Epic medical record system.
