Chemours is seeking a Procurement Manager for Energy and Industrial Gases covering its plants in the United States and around the world. This is a hybrid position based at Chemours headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, reporting to the Senior Procurement Manager - Packaging, Distribution Chemicals, Industrial Gases and Energy.
The Procurement Manager leads a team of one procurement professional and owns development and execution of category, regional, and site strategies for electricity, natural gas and steam, hydrogen, and industrial gases (including nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, and related products). The role drives sourcing excellence, supplier performance, contract management, commodity price-risk management, cost optimization, decarbonization of purchased energy, and supply-risk mitigation while ensuring compliance with procurement policy. The manager collaborates with operations, energy efficiency, EHS, finance/treasury, sustainability, legal, and suppliers to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and lower-carbon supply that supports plant continuity and Chemours climate commitments.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Leadership and stakeholder partnership
Manage, mentor, and develop the assigned procurement professional while personally owning complex negotiations and category decisions (player-coach model).
Serve as a trusted advisor to plant leadership, operations, finance, sustainability, and commercial teams; align energy and gas strategies with operational, financial, and climate objectives.
Establish, monitor, and communicate procurement KPIs, dashboards, benchmarks, and service-delivery metrics to stakeholders and leadership.
Category strategy and sourcing
Develop and execute global category and site sourcing strategies for electricity, natural gas/steam, hydrogen, atmospheric and specialty industrial gases, balancing cost, quality, reliability, working capital, and carbon intensity.
Direct RFx activities, supplier evaluations, reverse auctions, and sourcing events in compliance with procurement policy and governance.
Markets, contracts, and risk
Structure, negotiate, and manage power and gas supply agreements, including utility tariffs, physical and virtual power purchase agreements (PPAs/VPPAs), green tariffs, interruptible and demand-response products, and multi-year tonnage-gas contracts (take-or-pay, facility fees, purity and uptime SLAs).
Lead commodity price-risk management in partnership with Finance and Treasury: hedging strategy, exposure reporting, mark-to-market visibility, and compliance with corporate risk policy.
Analyze spend, load profiles, supplier performance, forward curves, basis risk, and external market intelligence to support decisions and mitigate supply and price risk.
Identify potential supply, regulatory, geopolitical, and weather-related risks and develop proactive mitigation plans to protect continuity of plant operations.
Manage contract lifecycle activities including implementation, compliance reviews, renewals, and supplier performance monitoring.
Decarbonization, operations interface, and safety
Source renewable and lower-carbon energy instruments (PPAs, RECs, guarantees of origin, I-RECs, and emerging green-hydrogen pathways) consistent with GHG Protocol Scope 2 accounting and Chemours science-based targets.
Partner with Operations, the Global Energy Efficiency Team, EHS, and Sustainability on load forecasting, energy-efficiency projects, on-site generation or electrolysis concepts, and Scope 1/2 reduction initiatives.
Build and maintain strategic supplier partnerships and oversee Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), including capability, risk, compliance, and supplier ESG performance (e.g., EcoVadis or equivalent).
Embed process-safety, transportation, and Responsible Care requirements into energy and industrial-gas contracts and supplier qualification.
Evaluate make-versus-buy options, including on-site air separation, pipeline or over-the-fence supply, merchant bulk/liquid, packaged gases, and supplier-owned plants on Chemours sites.
Identify and execute opportunities for cost reduction, cost avoidance, total cost of ownership (TCO) improvement, and working-capital optimization.
The following is required for this role:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Energy, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
10+ years of strategic procurement or commercial energy/gas experience, with a substantial portion in energy commodities and/or industrial gases (not solely adjacent chemical or packaging categories), including strategic sourcing and supplier management.
3+ years leading and developing procurement, sourcing, or supply-chain professionals.
Demonstrated experience procuring electricity and/or natural gas in regulated and deregulated markets, including tariff analysis and work in at least one major ISO/RTO (e.g., PJM) or equivalent international market.
Hands-on negotiation of power purchase agreements and/or long-term industrial-gas (tonnage) supply agreements.
Working knowledge of industrial-gas production and logistics: air separation, pipeline and bulk-liquid supply, on-site generation economics, and commercial terms used by major industrial-gas suppliers.
Ability to interpret plant load data, utility invoices, and gas specifications and to work directly with site engineers and energy managers.
Proficiency with ERP and Source-to-Pay (S2P) platforms such as SAP Ariba, Coupa, GEP, or similar systems, including RFx and e-sourcing tools.
Demonstrated expertise in contract negotiations, supplier relationship management, financial and market analysis, commodity or supply-risk management, and stakeholder engagement, supported by strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to travel approximately 15-25% to U.S. and international manufacturing sites.
The following is preferred for this role:
MBA or professional certifications such as CPSM, CIPS, CPP, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or energy-risk credentials (e.g., GARP Energy Risk Professional).
Six Sigma Green Belt or higher.
Experience supporting global procurement organizations and large-scale transformation initiatives.
Direct exposure to hydrogen (grey, blue, or green), steam, combined heat and power, or supplier-owned on-site generation contracting.
Familiarity with GHG Protocol Scope 2 (location- and market-based methods), SBTi, carbon-instrument integrity (additionality, vintage, residual mix), and supplier ESG programs such as EcoVadis.
Experience with energy or commodity analytics (forward curves, basis, load-shape modeling) and tools beyond S2P, such as energy-management or risk systems.
Multi-country contracting experience in Europe, Asia, and/or Latin America; additional language capability is an advantage.
Process-safety, PSM, or chemical-manufacturing plant experience; working knowledge of FERC/state utility regulation and industrial-gas transportation requirements.
