Technical Safety Intern

Audubon is currently seeking a Technical Safety Intern to join our team in our Houston, TX Office.

Primary Responsibilities

  • To assist in carry out engineering activities as directed by the Lead Technical Safety engineer
  • Assist with carrying out deliverables such as Hazardous Fluid List, Active & Passive Fire Protection Philosophy, Fire & Gas Detection Philosophy, Safety Layouts, Cause and Effect Matrix, Hazardous Area Classification Philosophy, Escape Routes and Safety Signs, etc.
  • Assist in the design of Fire Fighting systems: fire water demand, Fire Fighting P&IDs, fire water pumps, tanks, etc.
  • Participate in technical safety reviews such as HAZID, HAZOP, Bow-Tie, SIL, LOPA, Plot Plan review, 3D Model review.
  • Assist in performing Consequence Analysis using PHAST
  • Review technical safety studies like QRA, Dispersion and Flare Radiation studies.
  • Aid in the production and review specifications, data sheets, schedules, study reports, and design calculations; ensuring that they conform to engineering quality, competence, and project management systems
  • Participation in audits as required
  • Aid in Manhours estimation and scheduling for project proposals

Experience and Skill Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of 2 years of university course work in a chemical engineering curriculum at an ABET Accredited Institution preferred.
  • Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work related problems.
  • Working knowledge of codes (API, etc.) and Process Safety Regulations preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others verbally and in writing, including public speaking to groups of up to 30 professionals.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
