Dohrn is seeking a Part Time Industrial Engineer Student Admin. for our Corporate Office in Rock Island, Il!
Schedule: Monday - Friday, daytime
Wage: $20/hr

Position Summary:
The Industrial Engineering Student Intern supports operational improvement initiatives through data analysis, process evaluation, and project coordination. This role assists in identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, safety, quality, and cost reduction across operations, transportation, warehouse, or manufacturing environments.
The intern will gain hands-on experience working with cross-functional teams while applying Lean principles, process improvement methodologies, and analytical problem-solving skills in a real-world setting.
Responsibilities
• Conduct time studies and labor utilization reviews
• Analyze operational data and prepare reports, dashboards, and recommendations
• Support Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements
• Assist with facility layout planning and workflow optimization
• Participate in safety, quality, and productivity improvement projects
• Conducts financial analysis for project payback and return on investment (ROI)
• Collaborate with operations leadership, HR, maintenance, and frontline employees
• Support KPI tracking and operational performance metrics
• Prepare presentations and project summaries for leadership teams
• Maintain accurate documentation related to projects and process changes
• Develop and/or improve standard work procedures to drive operational consistency, efficiency, safety, and process standardization across departments.
• Work in a safe and professional manner so as to reduce personal risks and risk to fellow employees
• Comply with federal, state, and company regulations
• Process all paperwork daily associated with the execution of the job
• Perform other duties as needed
Qualifications
• Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering or related field. Junior or Senior standing preferred
• Must have a cumulative 2.7 GPA out of 4.0 scale
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suit and data analysis tools
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and in team environments
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or process improvement concepts preferred
• Knowledge of workflow optimization and operational efficiency principles preferred
• Familiarity with warehouse, transportation, manufacturing, or logistics operations preferred
• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Visio, or similar tools preferred
• Basic understanding of statistical analysis and reporting preferred
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
• Ability to walk operational facilities, terminals, warehouses, or shop environments
• Must be able to lift 25 lbs. on an infrequent basis
• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and observe for prolonged periods of time
• Must have the ability to safely enter and exit trailers, vans, flatbeds, forklifts and tractors
• Must have the ability to work around and operate motorized equipment
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job as specified in the job description
• May be exposed to extreme hot or cold temperatures and dusty conditions in the dock environment; must be able to perform essential functions in these conditions
