Provide engineering and technical expertise for the Middletown Board production facility, to continuously improve plant safety, quality, and productivity.

How you’ll make an impact…

Project phase – new machine install

  • Work with Board Machine Manager, Process Controls engineer and equipment vendors to ensure project is technically sound and executed as planned.
  • Become equipment subject matter expert to assist with training new employees as we move through staff build out and into production phase.
  • Work with DCS/QCS team on install of ABB platform throughout facility during project timeline.  Ensure all necessary process parameters are included, displayed properly and the historian is sized appropriately.
  • Assist Process Controls engineer with hardware portion of install.
  • Build professional network with other board mill process engineers and operations.
  • Assist with day to day construction project plans and execution of miscellaneous small projects.

Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and execute process improvements to increase productivity, reduce waste, and improve board and laminated board quality.
  • Support process engineering initiatives for both new and existing products.
  • Plan and execute trials to optimize board machine performance, lamination, and fabrication processes.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, root cause analysis, and data-driven methodologies to improve plant performance.
  • Identify and recommend operational improvements based on efficiency, reliability, safety, and cost considerations.

Technical Problem Solving & Manufacturing Support

  • Provide technical support for the Middletown board production facility, including periodic on-call and weekend support as needed.
  • Troubleshoot process, equipment, and quality issues to minimize downtime and improve operational stability.
  • Support implementation and optimization of manufacturing technologies and process chemicals.
  • Oversee board mill wastewater operations to ensure environmental compliance and operational efficiency.

Data Analysis & Decision Making

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret process data to identify trends and monitor key performance indicators.
  • Develop reports and recommendations that support operational, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Utilize analytical tools and problem-solving methodologies to support engineering and manufacturing decisions.
  • Recommend data-driven solutions that improve reliability, efficiency, and product quality.

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Lead capital and process improvement projects including equipment selection, justification, procurement, installation, and start-up.
  • Support enhancements to existing manufacturing systems and development of new products.
  • Evaluate and recommend new equipment, technologies, and process chemicals.
  • Coordinate project activities with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and external vendors.

 

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate daily with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Quality, and R&D teams to improve overall plant performance.
  • Communicate technical findings, process changes, and improvement recommendations effectively.
  • Participate in team-based problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Training & Knowledge Development

  • Train and mentor Board Machine Operators on process best practices and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Support technical skill development and knowledge transfer within manufacturing operations.
  • Actively pursue ongoing technical and professional development opportunities.

Environmental, Health & Safety Commitment

  • Support Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Promote safe work practices and proactively identify operational risks.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety, environmental, and operational standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support plant operations and business objectives.

What do you bring…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Paper Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
  • Three to five years of manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Strong entry-level candidates with relevant internship or co-op experience may also be considered.
