Job Description:
Chemical Process Engineer
Huntsman is seeking a Chemical Process Engineer supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in Ashtabula, Ohio. This position will report to the Engineering Manager.
Job Scope
Utilizes technical information and knowledge of chemistry to design and develop the processes that make a diverse range of chemical products. Work will focus on an understanding of how to efficiently alter raw materials into desired products while minimizing health and safety, and cost
risks.
In summary, as the Chemical Process Engineer, you will:
  • Deploy new processes and systems for chemical manufacturing from utilizing engineering principles to overseeing process implementation.
  • Lead technical development efforts at the site level from evaluating data to generating training materials and work procedures.
  • Execute projects for manufacturing processes and systems utilizing effective project management techniques and coordinating activities with internal and external resources.
  • Maintain technical documentation for process systems and evaluations (i.e.; generating and updating drawings, calculations, and design specifications).
  • Monitor and maximize process capabilities (quality, cycle times, costs, etc.) for existing products and processes.
  • Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and an ability to work extra hours if needed. If applicable, ability to work overtime may be needed to ensure required staffing capacity to meet daily production objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with team members with different backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Assists other employees in accomplishments of Huntsman company goals. Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
  • Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company. Participates in and completes company-required training programs.

Qualifications
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.
Minimum Qualifications
Education required
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or chemical engineering preferred.

Experience required
  • 2+ years related experience.
  • 2 or more years of experience leading process design efforts.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Good written and oral communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Basic understanding of process equipment design including pumps, polymerization reactors, pressure relief valve sizing, material balances, and instrument specifications.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of employees to plan, organize, and complete multiple projects from inception to startup.
  • Manufacturing experience with flammable or highly hazardous chemicals, with demonstrated excellent safe work behaviors (PSM/RMP preferred).
  • Comfortable functioning in a variety of roles ranging from plant floor troubleshooting and problem solving to leading long-term process improvement projects.

Working Environment
  • Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis.
