Job description

Weyerhaeuser is searching for a Process Control Engineer to support continuous improvement in safety, manufacturing, cost, process reliability and productivity at our Elkin OSB manufacturing facility. As a Process Control Engineer, you will contribute to our process control, perform analysis on systems data, and develop processes and improvement plans to support operations through Process Control Engineering. You will also play a critical role in loop tuning, HMI (Human Machine Interface) software and revisions, PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) revisions, and periodic evaluation of the operating software and instigation of changes required to achieve controls excellence.
As a member of the Elkin team, you will interact with the various operating teams, engineers and project managers. You should strive to provide excellence in technical support, hardware and software consulting to facilitate engineering, capital and major maintenance projects. There will also be interaction with the Maintenance department in maintaining the systems and with operations in using the systems. To thrive in this role, you will be capable of functioning at a high self-directed level, able to build and maintain strong relationships with all levels of personnel, and can schedule tasks through the Planners and in SAP. You will also be involved in the assessment and training of new hires and current team members.
This is a full-time salaried position, subject to call-in and weekend support. This position is a flow-to-work position.
Key Functions
As Process Control Engineer, you will:
  • Perform instrumentation installation & calibration, process control troubleshooting & programming, drive installation & programming for all mill areas
  • Provide technical assistance to specify, design and develop improvements in complex instrumentation, automation, process control & motion control systems
  • Deliver troubleshooting support mill-wide, maintain and enhance the engineering process control philosophy, strategy, and controls standard operating procedures
  • Lend expertise to departments to ensure understanding of process control characteristics and loop tuning
  • Assist in mentoring and training of on shift maintenance with extensive understanding of electrical systems, PLC & motion control systems
  • Assist in developing (and managing) capital project's PLC scope & requirements for new equipment and major repairs
  • Maintain and qualify air quality -or- waste water monitoring and treatment equipment
  • Develop/maintain mill standards for instrumentation
  • Work with power distribution systems including switchgear, transformers & MCC maintenance
  • Maintain broad-based product knowledge including Variable Frequency Drives, PLC's, Motion Control, Coordinated Drive Systems, Instrumentation, Process Control, HMI Software (Wonderware), Network design experience with Ethernet and managed switches
  • Participate in Business Process Controls Team activities - monthly involvement and reporting

Qualifications
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering or similar field AND 3-5 years of hands-on experience in Electrical Maintenance and Process Controls Systems in an industrial manufacturing and production environment OR Associate's/Technical degree AND at least 5 years' hands-on experience in Electrical Maintenance and Process Controls Systems in an industrial manufacturing and production environment OR 10+ years of hands-on experience in Electrical Maintenance and Process Controls Systems in an industrial manufacturing and production environment
  • Rockwell platforms (RS Logix) PLC Programming experience and capability
  • Strong electrical and PLC troubleshooting skills
  • Strong ControlLogix programming/troubleshooting skills HMI / SCADA development (AVEVA InTouch)
  • Must be able to read and understand technical manuals for start-up, troubleshooting and optimizing equipment
  • Proficient in use of various electrical test equipment AC variable frequency drive experience (start-up and troubleshooting A-B PowerFlex drives)
  • Computer skills in LAN, PC, Windows, CAD and Ethernet LAN with advanced MS Office skills
  • Experience with or willing to learn TCPIP, Ethernet IP, and other networks
  • Strong interpersonal skills and listening skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering or similar field
  • Experience with safety and electrical conformance standards including UL, NEC, OSHA, NFPA 70E, IEEE and FM Electrical experience and build capabilities including process control panels, safety circuit, wiring diagrams, I/O, MCC, VFD's, Drives, Tuning, Servers, pneumatics, valves, hydraulics, P & ID diagrams
  • Experience with electrical power distribution equipment and maintenance
  • Able to read and interpret prints/drawings to troubleshoot power and control electrical systems
  • Ability to manage capital projects, develop and manage a capital project budget, and develop capital project packages for approval (bids, project scope, execution plans, etc.)
  • Ability to develop Scope of Work that can be used for bidding jobs
  • Must be able to read, understand and make mark-ups to drawings for projects
  • Experience working in a heavy industrial manufacturing facility
  • Network fundamentals: VLANs, switching, segmentation
  • Data Acquisition and integration: Ethernet/IP, CIP, OPC UA Awareness of OT Cybersecurity standards (IEC-62443, ISA-95)

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $82,500-$123,800 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.
