Job description

Position Overview

This is a regular student technical position which blends photography with the critical task of photo archiving, ensuring that our visual memories and milestones are recorded and maintained for future generations.

Hours per Week

Up to 25 hours per week (schedule changes frequently).

Department Specific Job Functions

  • Collaborates closely with the Director of Photographic Services across all facets of the Photographic Services Department. 
  • Captures compelling images of university events, landscapes, individuals, sports, and other subjects that illustrate the university experience. 
  • Specializes in the digitization of negatives, transforming them into editable, storable, and shareable digital formats. 
  • Leads the charge in photo archiving, including photocopying proof sheets, scanning negatives, and meticulously managing the final digital assets to ensure their longevity and accessibility. 
  • Implements and maintains a robust digital archive system, focusing on metadata key wording for easy retrieval and organized storage of digital photographs. 
  • Exercises discretion and sound judgment while interacting with clients, talent, staff, and the university community, accurately representing the university's values and standards. 
  • Adapts to the dynamic needs of the department, understanding that duties may expand to similar, related, or logical assignments in support of the Photographic Services Department. 

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes in order to work during the summer, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.

Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. This pertains to both regular and Federal Work Study Program positions. Contact jobs@uco.edu for more information.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Must be available for frequent evening and weekend assignments, demonstrating flexibility and commitment.
  • Exhibits proficiency in professional photography techniques and possesses the ability to produce high-quality images. 
  • Skilled in Adobe Photoshop and familiar with Mac OS, with a strong emphasis on photo-editing capabilities using the Adobe Suite. 
  • Capable of working efficiently under pressure and meeting tight deadlines. 
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively within a creative team.
