Position OverviewThe Permit Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing permit applications on behalf of Colorado Barricade customers, with a primary focus on right-of-way, street occupancy, lane closure, traffic control, and related municipal permits. This role will provide a cradle-to-grave permitting experience from customer intake and jurisdiction research through application, agency follow-up, approval, and internal handoff. The Permit Coordinator will work closely with customers, traffic control plan designers, Customer Service, Sales, Dispatch, and Operations to ensure permit requirements are understood and completed in advance of scheduled work. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working with city and county agencies, and able to manage multiple active permit requests and deadlines at the same time.
Key Roles and ResponsibilitiesCore focus on the five major areas that contribute to the company's success:
Safety: Ensure permit requirements, approved traffic control plans, work restrictions, and jurisdiction conditions are communicated accurately so field work can be performed safely and compliantly.
Continuous Improvement: Develop and maintain repeatable permitting processes, jurisdiction requirements, tracking tools, and standard operating procedures. Identify opportunities to reduce permit turnaround time and duplicate administrative work.
Quality to Customer: Provide high-touch communication throughout the permitting process. Keep customers informed of permit status, missing information, agency corrections, expected approval dates, and changes that may affect the project schedule.
Employee Engagement: Work collaboratively with Sales, Customer Service, Design, Dispatch, and Operations. Share jurisdiction knowledge and help internal teams understand permit requirements and lead times.
Sales - Growth: Support Colorado Barricade's growth by providing permitting as a value-added customer service and ensuring permit coordination fees and pass-through agency fees are accurately documented for billing.
Other rolesFunction as the primary point of accountability for assigned permit requests from initial customer intake through permit approval and handoff.
Research the correct permitting jurisdiction based on project location and scope of work.
Prepare and submit right-of-way, street occupancy, lane closure, crane, traffic control, and other related permit applications through municipal, county, and state systems as required.
Collect required customer information including project address, scope, work dates, contractor information, licenses, insurance, traffic control plans, and other supporting documentation.
Coordinate traffic control plan needs with Colorado Barricade's plan/design team and ensure required plans and revisions are included with permit applications.
Track submitted, pending, correction-required, approved, expiring, and completed permits in the company permit tracking system.
Follow up with permitting agencies regarding application status, corrections, missing information, fees, and anticipated approval dates.
Communication permit status and schedule impacts to customers and appropriate internal teams.
Provide approved permits, plans, agency conditions, and work-hour restrictions to Customer Service, Dispatch, and Operations prior to scheduled work.
Maintain organized electronic records of permit applications, approvals, plans, correspondence, receipts, and supporting documentation.
Track agencies permit fees and Colorado Barricade permit coordination charges to ensure accurate customer billing.
Monitor permit expiration dates and coordinate extensions or revisions when required.
Develop and maintain jurisdiction-specific permitting requirements, contacts, portal information, lead times, and submission procedures for Denver Metro and surrounding jurisdictions.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with municipal and county permitting personnel, customers, and internal stakeholders.
Support quote follow-up, customer communication, and related administrative functions as workload allows.

QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in construction management, business administration, or a related field preferred. Relevant construction, traffic control, permitting, or municipal experience may substitute for formal education.
1-3 years of experience in permitting, construction administration, project coordination, traffic control, utility construction, municipal government, or a related field preferred.
Experience with right-of-way permits, street occupancy permits, traffic control plans, Accela, or municipal permitting portals strongly preferred.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple applications, deadlines, corrections, and customer commitments simultaneously.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally with customers, city and county agencies, field personnel, and internal teams.
Strong planning, organizational, follow-up, and time management skills.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; experience with SharePoint and electronic tracking systems preferred, with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
General knowledge of construction, work zone safety, and Colorado municipal or right-of-way requirements is preferred.
Working Environment/Physical RequirementsPrimarily office-based with occasional field visits or in-person meetings with customers and permitting agencies as needed.
Position involves sitting for extended periods of time while working at a computer terminal.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen and frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and use their hands. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
TravelLocal travel within the Denver Metro area and surrounding jurisdictions may be required. Overnight travel is not typically expected.
