About the Role
The Store Operations Manager ensures smooth day-to-day operations across all departments while serving as a key support to the Store Director, Center Store Director, and Fresh Market Director. This role provides leadership and oversight during evening operations and whenever Directors are unavailable. The Store Operations Manager helps deliver extraordinary customer experiences, promotes operational excellence, and upholds Vallarta's core values: customer service, commitment, integrity, respect, humility, and teamwork.
What You'll Do
  • Serve as the closing lead, ensuring all departments follow end-of-day protocols and security procedures.
  • Conduct final store walkthroughs to confirm compliance, cleanliness, organization, and safety.
  • Ensure proper locking, alarm-setting, and documentation of closing activities.
  • Act as backup leadership for Directors, overseeing department managers and ensuring continuity of operations.
  • Support departmental performance related to labor, sales, product quality, and merchandising.
  • Provide coaching and direction to department managers, especially during closing shifts.
  • Address escalated customer service issues in real time and provide follow-up as needed.
  • Reinforce Vallarta's Nuestra CASA customer service pledge.
  • Ensure compliance with federal/state regulations, food safety, and store policies.
  • Monitor safety during closing (equipment shutdown, cleaning chemical use, proper lifting).
  • Partner with department managers on inventory rotation, product presentation, and merchandising execution.
  • Support shrink reduction, loss prevention, and vendor service/repair coordination.
  • Communicate effectively with the Store Director and other Directors about evening operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk for extended periods (6-8 hours/day).
  • Frequently bend, squat, twist, and reach above/below shoulders.
  • Use hands for grasping, pulling, pushing, and equipment operation.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently; occasionally up to 40 lbs.
  • Work in environments with exposure to cold, hot, and wet conditions in perishable departments.

What We're Looking For
  • 2+ years of retail leadership experience, preferably in a supermarket.
  • Experience managing teams across multiple departments.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of grocery and perishable operations, compliance, and safety standards.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Must pass a criminal and credit background check.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Work Environment
  • Fast-paced retail setting with direct customer interaction.
  • Exposure to perishable products and changing conditions.
  • Evening and weekend shifts required flexibility to adjust schedule as needed.
  • Must work flexible schedule: afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
