Job Summary:
The Perishable Operations Assistant will provide essential support to the perishable departments within the organization. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of perishable goods management, including pricing, purchasing, inventory management, advertising, and financial reconciliation. The successful candidate will work closely with department heads, supervisors, suppliers, and upper management to facilitate seamless communication, coordinate day-to-day operations, and contribute to the overall profitability of the perishable categories.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Perishable Operations Support:
  • Facilitate communication between perishable departments and other areas of the organization.
  • Assist in coordinating and managing daily perishable operations, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and accurately.

2. Pricing and Purchasing:
  • Maintain up-to-date and competitive pricing for all perishable products.
  • Support the purchasing process, ensuring that orders align with demand and contribute to sales and profit goals.

3. Strategic Buying and Inventory Management:
  • Collaborate with department heads to gather orders for special purchases and provide guidance on optimal ordering strategies.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of special buys, working with supervisors and suppliers.

4. Advertising and Promotions:
  • Partner with upper management to select and coordinate promotional items across departments.
  • Communicate promotional information to the advertising department for inclusion in printed materials and social media campaigns.

5. Inventory and Transfer Oversight:
  • Regularly review perishable inventories to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Monitor transfers between departments, ensuring accuracy and addressing any issues.

6. Financial Reconciliation:
  • Liaise with suppliers, store management, and the accounting department to ensure accurate billing and payment processes.
  • Reconcile invoices and manage vendor "billback" funds on a periodic basis.

7. Communication and Coordination:
  • Provide roadside sign information to stores weekly.
  • Assist the advertising department with various tasks as needed.
  • Maintain open communication with department heads, supervisors, and upper management to ensure optimal inventory levels and accurate submissions to accounting.

8. Clerical Support:
  • Collaborate with upper management to create a job description for a "Perishable Clerk" role.
  • Participate in the selection process to identify the best candidate for the Perishable Clerk position.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Perform other duties as assigned, and communicate with Perishable V.P.'s regarding any questions or concerns related to the role.

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in perishable goods management, inventory control, or a related field.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and other relevant tools.
