Job description

Construction Project Manager.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Construction Engineering Project Manager to join a Utility Engineering team responsible for delivering electric distribution infrastructure projects. This role will lead the planning, coordination, execution, and monitoring of a diverse portfolio of utility construction and engineering projects focused on new customer connections, infrastructure upgrades, renewable energy integration, and power system enhancements.

The ideal candidate will bring strong project management fundamentals combined with construction project management experience. This position requires coordinating cross-functional teams, managing project schedules and budgets, establishing critical paths, mitigating risks, and driving project delivery from initiation through construction completion.

This is a high-visibility role supporting a multi-million-dollar annual project portfolio and serving as a key liaison among internal engineering teams, customers, developers, contractors, consultants, and regulatory stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Management & Delivery.
  • Lead and manage multiple electric utility distribution engineering and construction projects simultaneously.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, milestones, budgets, and critical path activities.
  • Monitor project scope, cost, schedule, and performance to ensure successful execution.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement and maturity of project management processes and methodologies.
  • Oversee electric distribution projects involving installation of new assets and upgrades to existing infrastructure.
  • New customer service installations.
  • Electric service upgrades.
  • Distributed generation projects.
  • Solar energy projects.
  • Utility infrastructure expansion.
  • Large-scale power generation and plant projects.
  • Coordinate feeder interconnections and utility engineering activities throughout project lifecycles.
  • Coordinate construction activities with contractors, developers, and field personnel.
  • Monitor construction schedules, material availability, and installation milestones.
  • Permitting & Regulatory Coordination.
  • Design & Infrastructure Coordination.
  • Manage utility vault design and construction coordination among architects, developers, builders, and engineering teams.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience; candidates with 2-4 years of highly relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience managing construction-related projects from planning through execution.
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, and resource management.

Work Environment:
  • Hybrid work schedule with approximately 75% office-based work and 25% field/site visits.
  • Primarily supporting projects within Dane County.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented culture with strong leadership support.
