What is a per diem recruiter?

A Per Diem Recruiter is a recruiting professional hired on an as-needed or temporary basis, rather than as a full-time or permanent employee. They help organizations find and hire candidates, often to fill short-term staffing needs, cover busy periods, or address specific projects. Per Diem Recruiters may work for staffing agencies or directly for companies, and their hours and assignments can vary depending on the employer's requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a per diem recruiter?

To thrive as a Per Diem Recruiter, you need a solid understanding of talent acquisition principles, sourcing strategies, and typically a background in human resources or related fields. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), job boards, and recruitment analytics tools is commonly required. Strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills help you efficiently connect candidates with short-term roles and maintain client satisfaction. These abilities are crucial for quickly filling urgent staffing needs while ensuring quality placements and positive candidate experiences.

How does the workflow and team collaboration typically look for a per diem recruiter?

As a Per Diem Recruiter, you often work on a flexible or as-needed basis, which means your schedule and workload can vary depending on the organization's hiring demands. You may collaborate closely with full-time recruiting teams, hiring managers, and HR staff to fill urgent or specialized positions quickly. Communication is often managed via email, phone, and virtual meetings, and you may be responsible for sourcing candidates, conducting initial screenings, and coordinating interviews. This role is ideal for professionals who are self-motivated, adaptable, and comfortable working independently while maintaining strong relationships with core team members.
