What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the People Operations position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a People Operations professional, you need a strong background in HR processes, data analysis, compliance, and talent management, often supported by a degree in human resources or a related field. Job description

The Team + The Role
The People Operations team is the connective tissue between Pendo's workforce strategy and the day-to-day experience of every employee. The team owns the systems, processes, and programs that help the business scale effectively, from onboarding and benefits administration to HR data integrity and compliance. This is a lean, high-throughput function where every team member owns a meaningful part of the People infrastructure.
The People Operations Analyst sits at the intersection of employee experience and operational rigor. This role owns a defined set of HR processes end-to-end, including new hire coordination, employee lifecycle events, HRIS transactions, reporting, and People Operations issue resolution. The role works closely with Finance, Legal, and Talent Acquisition and is expected to identify and close operational gaps before they create friction for employees or the business.
This role is based in our Raleigh office.
What this looks like day-to-day
  • Employee lifecycle coordination: Manage employment lifecycle transactions in Workday or an equivalent HRIS, including new hires, transfers, promotions, terminations, and leave events. Ensure records are accurate, timely, and complete before payroll cut-off.
  • Onboarding delivery: Coordinate and facilitate new hire onboarding end-to-end, including I-9 verification, system provisioning requests, Day 1 scheduling, and 30-day check-ins. Track completion and escalate blockers before they affect the new hire experience.
  • HR data and reporting: Support the accuracy of employee data in Workday and maintain recurring People reports. Use AI to accelerate data synthesis, surface anomalies, and flag discrepancies before they compound.
  • Ticketing and issue resolution: Process People Operations Tier 1 and Tier 2 tickets with clear, timely follow-through. Recommend documentation or process improvements that reduce repeat questions and improve the employee experience.
Who You Are
Beyond the qualifications, we hire through a specific lens. These aren't buzzwords; they're the things we'll actually look for in how you talk about your work.
You're a builder, not a maintainer.
You're most energized when there isn't a clear path yet, and you get to define it. You don't wait for direction; you identify gaps, shape solutions, and drive them forward. At Pendo, great People Operations Analysts don't just follow instructions; they operate as strategic advisors, influencing decisions, guiding stakeholders, and elevating how we work.
You're AI-curious - genuinely.
You're not using AI tools occasionally. You're rewiring how you work around them. You're faster, sharper, and more prolific because of it, and you bring that energy to everything - how you approach your work, how you prep, how you communicate, how you think. We want someone who sees AI as a multiplier, not a shortcut.
Must-haves
  • 1 or more years of experience in HR operations, People Operations, or a directly adjacent function.
  • Hands-on HRIS experience, including accurate data entry, employee lifecycle transaction processing, and basic report generation.
  • Active use of AI tools in daily work, such as drafting, research, data synthesis, or reporting, with a demonstrated willingness to keep experimenting.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex policy or benefits information into clear employee-facing language.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity, including making reasonable process decisions when there is no playbook, documenting the approach, and improving it over time.
  • Proven ability to keep multiple concurrent processes moving without losing detail or follow-through.
Nice-to-haves
  • Workday experience.
  • Familiarity with HR compliance requirements across multiple US states, including leave law basics.
  • Prior experience in a high-growth technology or SaaS company.
