Job description

This position helps advance the City’s Strategic Plan by supporting an equitable and efficient compensation system that ensures accurate, timely, and transparent payroll services for all City employees. The Payroll Analyst plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality service to departments and staff through collaboration, problem-solving, and a commitment to ongoing improvement.

 

Summary:
The City of Lawrence, KS is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Analyst to join the Human Resources Department. This position performs analytical and technical duties related to payroll processing and reporting for all City departments. Responsibilities include preparing and auditing payroll transactions, ensuring compliance with tax and wage laws, processing deductions and garnishments, and creating reports to support City operations.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, accuracy in data management, and the ability to collaborate across departments to ensure a seamless payroll operation. This role provides the opportunity to enhance Citywide payroll systems, streamline processes, and support our workforce with reliable and timely payroll service.

  

Qualifications:

Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, Business, or Public Administration, or a related field.


Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in payroll processing, pay policy administration, and tax compliance.
- Knowledge of payroll systems, wage and hour laws, and tax regulations.
- Proficiency with HRIS or HCM software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
