Job description

Job Summary

Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills and in accordance with federal and state laws including FLSA, and under moderate supervision from Payroll leadership, responsible for performing a variety of analytical, clerical, payroll. responsibilities related to timekeeping and payroll functions for Corewell Health System and its team members. Be a resource and provide assistance to departments and team members with the timekeeping and Human Capital Management system (HCM), including direct deposit, tax forms and pay slip view. Deciphers Corewell policies, pay practices and FLSA compliance. Be a integral part of the operations within the Payroll department to achieve accurate and timely payrolls while demonstrating excellent customer service to customers (team members) of Corewell Health.

Essential Functions
  • Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate through variable payroll related situations presented by leadership and or team members including calculations of retroactive corrections.
    Enters, processes, monitors and maintains a variety of data for inclusion in the on and off cycle payroll payment runs following established Corewell guidelines and reviews for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assure that all on and off cycle payroll checks are printed, sealed, and distributed. Coordinate to assure accurate and timely distribution via mailroom, FedEx, Check Courier.
    Ensures that required activities within areas of responsibility are performed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Establish and maintain payroll support documentation of team members within assigned departments in a timely, accurate and confidential manner. Interact with departmental leadership and team members.
    Review, upload, validate withholding orders to ADP/WD including Child support orders, bankruptcy orders, creditor garnishments, Tax Levies, Student Loans, etc.
  • Determine necessary payroll process including review, calculate, implement and audit HCM data flow and alerts of all assigned employee changes originating from Human Resources.
    Assist, research and resolve team members, time editors and leaders with any timekeeping/payroll related inquiries or issues including direct deposit, tax forms and pay slip view, in an accurate and timely manner utilizing ticketing software (i.e., Service Now), the organization's messaging app and/or telephonic system as deemed appropriate.
  • Review and monitor biweekly time and attendance information. Collaborate with editors/leaders to resolve exception/issues. Process manual deductions received throughout organization.
    Perform prospective audits of assigned department's input into timekeeping system utilizing timecard and schedules for compliance to governmental labor laws including FLSA and Corewell policy as a check and balance for the accurate outcome of employee paychecks.
  • Review and process authorized corrections as requested by department editor/leader. Audit numerous reports for pay accuracy and compliance. Provide timekeeping assistance to departments as needed to enhance the user's skills.
    Review and verify final processing outcomes of data input during the on-cycle payroll run process.
  • Sort departmental mail, email and faxes throughout the day. Distribute or respond, as appropriate.
    Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations, as well as, Corewell Health policies, procedures, pay practices and union contracts (if applicable).
  • Demonstrates outstanding customer service mindful of the personal aspect of the payroll relationship between employer and team member and ensures that harmony is maintained through constant concern for the fellow team member.
    Strives for 100% compliance, accuracy and timeliness of all payroll activities.
    Provide coverage for fellow Payroll team member and other co-workers as necessary for vacations, LOA's, absences, and trainees. Complete special projects and other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in a payroll department that oversees timekeeping and payroll processing or as a time editor in similar timekeeping system.

Preferred

  • Associate's degree related field
