Job Description
Addison Group is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager for a growing organization in Orange, CA. This temp-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for a payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes ownership of their work, and enjoys partnering across departments to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
The Payroll Manager will oversee the full payroll process, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, supervise payroll staff, and identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and efficiencies. This role requires strong leadership skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to confidently communicate with managers regarding payroll compliance and timekeeping practices.
Responsibilities
  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for a workforce of 200+ employees, ensuring accuracy and timely payroll execution.
  • Ensure compliance with California wage and hour laws, federal and state payroll regulations, and applicable labor agreements.
  • Review payroll adjustments, retroactive payments, garnishments, final paychecks, and payroll reconciliations.
  • Perform payroll audits, identify discrepancies, and collaborate with managers to resolve payroll and timekeeping issues.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop payroll team members while establishing best practices and maintaining service excellence.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Finance on employee lifecycle changes, payroll reporting, reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Support payroll system maintenance, testing, upgrades, and process improvements.
  • Prepare payroll reports and assist with internal and external payroll audits.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation while ensuring data integrity.
  • Drive continuous process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency and compliance.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7 years of payroll experience with at least 3 years of payroll leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience managing payroll for 200+ employees.
  • Strong knowledge of California wage and hour laws and payroll compliance.
  • Experience processing union payroll is required.
  • Experience supervising one or more payroll professionals.
  • Proficiency with large payroll systems; Paylocity experience is highly preferred.
  • Certified payroll experience is a plus.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-directed, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines.
