Job Title: Payroll Accountant

Location: Houston, TX

Compensation: $49.00 – $50.00 / hour

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Accountant to join our finance team in Houston, TX. This role is responsible for supporting payroll accounting functions, payroll reconciliations, general ledger activity, and ensuring payroll-related financial data is accurate and compliant. The ideal candidate has strong accounting and payroll experience, advanced analytical skills, and hands-on experience with SAP.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Accounting

  • Prepare and record payroll-related journal entries and accruals
  • Reconcile payroll accounts including wages, taxes, benefits, and deductions
  • Ensure payroll transactions are accurately reflected in the general ledger
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities related to payroll accounting

Payroll Processing Support

  • Support payroll processing activities to ensure accurate and timely payroll execution
  • Review payroll reports for discrepancies and resolve issues as needed
  • Partner with payroll and HR teams to ensure accurate employee data and payroll records

Reconciliation & Analysis

  • Perform account reconciliations and analyze payroll variances
  • Research and resolve discrepancies between payroll systems and financial records
  • Prepare payroll-related reports and schedules for management and auditors

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
  • Support internal and external audit requests related to payroll accounting
  • Maintain organized payroll and accounting documentation

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Utilize SAP for payroll accounting, reconciliations, and reporting activities
  • Assist with payroll system enhancements, testing, and process improvements
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll accounting accuracy and efficiency

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of payroll accounting or payroll processing experience preferred
  • SAP experience required
  • Strong understanding of payroll accounting, reconciliations, and general ledger processes
  • Advanced Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis
  • Knowledge of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements preferred
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
