Job description

QUALIFICATIONS:

JOB SPECIFIC CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • The Rehabilitation Tech assists the rehabilitation staff in the provision of patient care and transportation, cleaning of equipment and secretarial support as required.
  • The Rehab Tech will coordinate ordering of supplies and equipment checks for the department.
  • Accurately obtains patient information and utilizes Meditech scheduling module for scheduling patients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The associate must can perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • They must display behavior which promotes good guest relations to patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers.
  • They must be able to communicate and comprehend the English language and possess keyboarding skills for computer input.
  • The Rehab Tech will provide assistance to the therapist for preparation or administration of treatments.
  • They will perform tasks, per departmental procedure, to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly department.
  • The Rehab Tech will coordinate ordering of supplies and equipment checks for the department.
  • The Rehab Tech may be required to assist with secretarial/clerical duties.

EXPECTED BEHAVIORS:

  • Conducts interactions with patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, other associates and the public in a manner consistent with the intent of the hospital’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Participates in departmental performance/quality improvement and program development as well as in departmental events such as Heartbeats, PT/OT month, health fairs, etc.
  • The Rehab Tech is responsible for participation in departmental meetings/activities.
  • Fill and clean whirlpool tanks, control temperature and utilize proper chemicals per department policies and procedures.
  • Assist therapists with whirlpool patients and dressing changes.
  • Prepare treatment area for patient and therapist to maximize efficiency.
  • Transport patients to and from department according to scheduled appointments.
  • Correctly complete paperwork and issue equipment when required.
  • Assist therapists with patient ambulation and exercise as needed.
  • Orders and maintains clean linen supplies.
  • Cleans equipment and takes appropriate items to/from CSR per procedure manual.
  • Observes patients during treatments and reports any distress.
  • Observes equipment for malfunction and takes appropriate action.
  • Provides for protection and support while moving, transferring or ambulating patients
  • Maintains adequate supply of walkers, canes and crutches in consignment closet.
  • Maintains stock of key supplies for department through weekly inventory checks and ordering.
  • Completes paraffin temperature checks.
  • Completes daily refrigerator/freezer checks.
  • Completes hydrocollator temperature check and cleaning per policy.
  • Accurately obtains patient information and utilizes Meditech scheduling module for scheduling patients.
  • Distributes daily schedules to all departmental areas.
  • Utilizes Access, Excel and Word programs accurately to support departmental information needs.
  • Demonstrates the ability to correctly use telephone, fax and copier.
  • Communicates pertinent patient information clearly, accurately and in a timely manner to appropriate persons.
  • Takes complete telephone messages and communicates in a timely manner with recipient.
  • Applies good guest relations techniques to telephone conversations

MANDATORY LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • CPR

ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • The Rehab Tech should possess a high school education or its equivalent.
  • Typing skills and strong telephone skills are necessary for this position.
  • Previous experience in healthcare environment preferred.
  • Mandatory Annual Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Confidentiality-HIPAA, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance. Annual Unit Specific Competencies, and all education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Lift to 50 lbs. independently and for weights greater than 50 lbs. must use mechanical device or team lifting
  • Push/pull patients of up to 250 lbs. in a wheeled device and for weights greater than 250 lbs. must use team assistance
  • Hearing requirements include but are not limited to hearing and responding to codes, monitors, pagers, phones, equipment alarms or patients calling for assistance, ability to auscultate B/P.
  • Standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling as needed more than 2/3 of day
  • Vision requirements include but are not limited to close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. This may include ability to read thermometers, electronic scales, etc.

EQUIPMENT USED: Cardiovascular conditioning and strengthening equipment. Electrical equipment including, but not limited to whirlpool, paraffin bath, hot and cold pack machines.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Busy/stressful clinical environment with potential exposure to blood and body fluids as well as emergency situations.
