Class Description
The purpose of the part time tutor position is to provide academic support to CCBC students by promoting effective study habits and learning strategies to become independent learners. The tutor position supports student retention and the College's mission to provide support and intervention to eradicate attainment gaps based on income, race, gender, and ethnicity. Salaries are based on education level.
Salary Range Depends upon education level
Tutor I - (less than associate degree) $16.62 Tutor II - (associate degree) $17.85 Tutor III - (bachelor's degree or above) $19.07 Tutor IV -(Master's Degree) $21.54
Multiple vacancies available at multiple locations: Catonsville Campus, Dundalk Campus and Essex Campus.
Minimum Requirements
  • Tutor I - Successful completion of nine (9) credits of college-level courses with at least a B average in the course(s) to be tutored and faculty recommendation.
  • Tutor II - Associate Degree with 3.0 GPA or higher in course (s) to be tutored.
  • Tutor III - Bachelor's Degree with 3.0 GPA or higher in course (s) to be tutored.
  • Tutor IV - Maters Degree with 3.0 GPA or higher in course (s) to be tutored.
  • Demonstrated subject area competence.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
  • Prior tutoring experience preferred.

This is an in person position only (no remote options available)
Class Specific Essential Duties
  1. Promotes a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment.
  2. Provides one-on-one, small group and/or online assistance to students.
  3. Assist students in learning course content by referring to student class notes, assignments, and class resources.
  4. Promotes study skills and learning strategies.
  5. Visits classes to advertise the services provided.
  6. Documents time spent with each student and identifies material covered.
  7. Attends training sessions to become College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certified.
  8. Mentors, observes, and evaluates other tutors as assigned.
Essential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned.

Supplemental (Retirement Annuities) 403(b) and 457(b)
  • Tax-sheltered annuities - 403(b). Payroll salary reduction authorization is needed. The form is available on SharePoint Forms/Human Resources Forms.
    The 403(b) supplemental retirement plan is available to all CCBC employees (Adjunct Faculty, Part Time Associates and Full Time employees).
  • Roth 403(b) is a savings feature that is available when you open a 403(b) account. The Roth 403(b) savings feature allows employees to contribute after-tax dollars and then withdraw tax-free dollars from their account upon retirement. The Roth 403(b) savings feature is only offered by the following vendors: TIAA-CREF and VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc. Adjunct Faculty, Part Time Associates and Full Time employees are eligible to save for retirement using the Roth 403(b) savings feature. Employees may contribute traditional pre-tax 403(b) dollars and Roth 403(b) post-tax dollars simultaneously. The savings limits are combined for the Traditional 403(b) and the Roth 403(b) contributions.
  • Deferred Compensation Plan - 457(b) offered through VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc. The 457(b) salary reduction authorization form is needed. The form is available on SharePoint Forms/Human Resources Forms.
