What is part time project management?

Part time project management involves overseeing and coordinating projects while working fewer hours than a standard full-time schedule. Part time project managers are responsible for planning, executing, and monitoring projects, but typically manage a smaller workload or number of projects. This role is ideal for organizations with limited project needs or professionals seeking work-life balance. Part time project managers use the same tools and methodologies as their full-time counterparts, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. Flexibility and strong communication skills are key to success in this position.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Project Manager, you need strong organizational, leadership, and time management skills, often supported by a background in business or project management and experience leading teams. Familiarity with project management software like Asana, Trello, or Microsoft Project, and certifications such as PMP or CAPM, are commonly valued. Excellent communication, adaptability, and problem-solving abilities help you effectively coordinate tasks and stakeholders within limited hours. These skills ensure that projects stay on track and objectives are met efficiently, even within a part-time schedule.

How do part-time project managers typically balance multiple projects and communicate effectively with full-time team members?

Part-time project managers often juggle several projects simultaneously, requiring strong organizational skills and proactive communication. They typically rely on clear scheduling, regular status updates, and digital collaboration tools to stay aligned with full-time team members and stakeholders. Establishing set check-in times and leveraging project management software helps ensure everyone stays informed and progress remains on track. Open communication and setting expectations early are key strategies for success in a part-time project management role.

Can a project manager be part-time?

Yes, a project manager can work part-time, especially in smaller organizations or for specific projects that require less oversight. Part-time project managers typically handle fewer projects or responsibilities and may use project management tools like MS Project or Asana to coordinate tasks efficiently.

Job description

Join one of the fastest growing, most dynamic companies in the furniture industry. For over 25 years, Four Hands has been a leading designer and wholesaler of furniture and décor, helping people create spaces that feel like home.

Recognized on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing companies and named one of Austin's Top Workplaces year after year. We invest in exceptional people — with a team of over 800 and growing — fostering our employees' careers and celebrating them at every step of the way. Four Hands is where passion meets purpose and where your next chapter begins.

We're looking for a motivated, detail-oriented college student to join our National Sales organization as a Project Management Intern. In this role, you'll sit at the center of our Inside and Field sales teams, helping drive revenue-generating projects from kickoff to completion. You'll act as a connective thread across sales reps, internal departments, and multiple business verticals, including eCommerce, Retail, and Art, gaining hands-on experience in how a high-performing sales engine optimizes Revenue driven strategies.

This is an ideal opportunity for a student interested in project management, sales operations, or business strategy who wants real ownership and visibility with senior leadership.

This position is expected to start September 2026 and continue through the entire Fall 2026 term (through December 2026). Our internships are a minimum of 12 weeks, part-time (20 to 25 hours) and on-site.

In This Role

  • Coordinate revenue-driving projects across the Inside and Field National sales teams, tracking timelines, deliverables, and next steps to keep initiatives moving
  • Collaborate across sales teams, serving as a reliable point of contact who keeps Inside and Field reps aligned on shared goals and priorities
  • Partner across internal departments to remove roadblocks and ensure projects stay on schedule
  • Support work spanning multiple verticals, adapting to the unique needs and stakeholders of each business line
  • Maintain project trackers and dashboards, providing clear status updates and surfacing risks early
  • Prepare reporting and summaries for the Senior Director of National Sales to inform decision-making
  • Help organize cross-functional meetings, capturing action items and following up to drive accountability
  • Other duties as assigned, in accordance with training and qualifications
  • Uphold the Core Values and be a valuable member of the Four Hands Team
    • Be open and honest
    • Reach for excellence
    • Act with responsibility
    • Value the whole person
    • Enjoy the journey

The Ideal Person

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program (Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field preferred)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines at once
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable working with people across teams and seniority levels
  • A collaborative, proactive mindset — you enjoy connecting dots and bringing people together
  • Comfort with tools such as MS Office suite, project management software, and presentation tools (training provided)
  • Curiosity about sales, retail, eCommerce, and the art/creative space is a plus
