Job description

Occupational Summary
Creative Discovery Museum is one of the top children's museums in the country due to engaging and enthusiastic staff who meet all guests with exceptional service. The role of Museum Educators is to provide an outstanding experience for all museum guests by ensuring a safe, fun, and orderly environment. At CDM we inspire all children to explore, innovate, create, and play through our exhibits and programs. Museum Educators function in those spaces and in special events using proactive awareness and prioritizing guests’ needs. The museum is open seven days a week so Museum Educators must have availability for work weekdays and weekends during the museum’s regular hours, early mornings, evenings, and weekends (minimum 16 hours of availability per week for a part time workweek).

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Provide an unforgettable, outstanding experience through excellent customer service for all guests. We do this by being hospitable, enthusiastic, and proactive. This looks like greeting guests, offering assistance, and using meaningful eye contact and proximity.
2. Spark positive guest engagement opportunities through play, exhibit interpretation, hands-on activities, and registered programs.
3. Contribute to the overall positive image of the museum by serving as a knowledgeable advocate for all museum programs, activities, events, and upcoming exhibits
4. Ensure that exhibits, props, and program components are always ready for guest interaction. This includes re-setting, re-stocking, and cleaning surfaces and end-of-day closing procedures as needed.
5. Ensure guest and exhibit safety through an awareness of guest activity, recognizing and kindly redirecting when exhibit components are not being used safely. Step in to reconnect when children are not supervised by their caregivers.
6. Facilitate engagement in the Make-it Workshop and Art Studio as needed.
7. Facilitate engaging value-added Programming for general admission guests as scheduled (Story Times, Walk-Ups, Kitchen Lessons, Science Demonstrations, etc.)
8. Facilitate workshops and present Science Demonstrations for academically aligned groups and tours as scheduled.
9. Facilitate and support museum programming occurring after opening, after closing, and on holidays (such as Members Mornings, Amuse’Um, Red, White, & Blue Day, and others) as scheduled.
10. Serve as Support Facilitator in reserved programs, such as Club Discovery and Camps, as scheduled.
11. Attend monthly Museum Experience meetings and all required staff meetings.
12. Performs related duties as assigned by the Museum Experience Manager.

Requirements
• Must be 18 years or older.
• A minimum availability of 16 hours per workweek to include holiday, evening, early morning, and weekend shifts
• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1-year experience or formal education in the Arts, Sciences, Early Childhood, or Education
• Experience working with children aged 2 – 12 years
• Experience working in a team

Some lifting of supplies
Presentation and facilitation skills and endurance. Some facilitation may last an entire camp day.
