Job Title: Line Cook

Department: Schokko Café

Reports To: Sous Chef

FLSA Status: non-exempt (part-time)

Work schedule: Variable, including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.

Job Summary: The Line Cook supports daily kitchen operations by preparing high-quality food in a fast-paced café environment. This role contributes to an exceptional visitor experience by maintaining culinary standards, efficiency, and food safety practices consistent with the Columbus Museum of Art’s commitment to quality and hospitality.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook menu items according to standardized recipes and chef specifications.
  • Responsible for the orderliness, cleanliness, and sanitation of Café food prep work areas.
  • Assisting with stocking and setting up the kitchen stations.
  • Plating prepared foods based on the chef’s specifications.
  • Maintain ticket times averaging under 12 minutes while ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Communicate food, beverage, and supply needs to the Chef in a timely manner.
  • Washing and cleaning the kitchen and cooking utensils and storing the equipment at the end of shifts.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards and health regulations.
  • Accomplishes all job duties while adhering to all safety guidelines and practices throughout the shift.
  • Reports any unsafe condition, unsafe act, accidents and/or injuries to the manager on duty.
  • Follow all posted daily cleaning duties and closing procedures, including sweeping, mopping, and trash removal.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Previous commercial cooking experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Appreciation for and alignment with the mission of the Columbus Museum of Art.
  • Quality and service-oriented mindset.
  • Exhibit professionalism in attire, work habits and communication.

Uniform Requirements: This position does require maintaining a dress code, including non-slip shoes, and a clean, professional personal appearance.

Physical Demands: Must be able to walk, sit, talk, hear and stand for up to 6 hours at a time. Must be able to use hand to touch, handle and feel in process of cooking. Must be able to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.

Work Environment: Fast-paced kitchen setting requiring safe handling of knives, dishes, and hot equipment. Noise levels range from quiet to moderate.
