Job Title: Special Event Service Staff- Servers/ Bartenders

Department: Special Events

Reports To: Sr. Banquet Manager

FLSA Status: Non-exempt (contingent, as needed)

Work schedule: Variable including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.

Overview: The Special Events Department at the Columbus Museum of Art is seeking highly qualified individuals with a strong background in hospitality and service. We are looking for team members who bring enthusiasm, professionalism, and a genuine passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in providing the highest level of service on every occasion.

Job Summary: The Special Event Servers and Bartenders are responsible for delivering high-quality food and beverage service during corporate, social, and internal events at the Columbus Museum of Art. This position ensures exceptional customer service aligned with CMA’s hospitality standards. It is a contingent, as-needed basis, offering flexible scheduling based on event needs and individual availability.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set up and tear down event spaces and service areas using appropriate equipment to support a variety of food and beverage service scenarios throughout the museum.
  • Serve alcoholic beverages responsibly and in compliance with CMA service standards and state liquor control guidelines.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to clients and guests before, during, and after events, ensuring a welcoming and professional experience.
  • Safely lift and carry trays of food, navigate tight or crowded spaces with efficiency, and push/pull carts containing tables, chairs, and other event equipment as needed.
  • Follow Serve Safe and other food safety protocols in accordance with city, county, and state regulations to ensure a safe and hygienic service environment.
  • Other duties as delegated


Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in food and beverage service, preferably in banquet, catering, or special event settings
  • Strong customer service skills with a friendly, professional demeanor
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Must be 21 years of age or older to serve alcoholic beverages
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices; Serve Safe Certification is a plus
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry up to 50 lbs, and safely maneuver equipment
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to take direction and adapt to changing event needs

Uniform Requirements: This position does require maintaining a dress code and a clean, professional personal appearance. Dress code includes black pants, black collared button-up shirt, black belt, and black non-slip shoes.


Physical Demands: Must be able to stand, walk, sit, talk, taste, smell, and hear. Must be able to use hands to touch, handle and feel. Must be able to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to reach with hands and arms and carry heavy food-laden trays. Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.

Work Environment: Must be able to work in high-traffic kitchen/banquet setting to retrieve food for serving. Must carry heavy trays of food/beverages through high-traffic areas and in/out of elevators and loading dock areas. Noise levels are moderate to loud.
