Office of Administrative Hearings is looking for a dedicatedb to provide secretarial support to and paralegal support to administrative law judges.
The successful candidate will participate in proofreading judges' written decisions; answering litigants' procedural questions; conducting telephonic pre-hearing conferences; and assisting with office administrative duties.
The successful candidate will also review case files and maintain confidentiality at all times; maintain and track documents, exhibits, and other case filings; and accurately draft various routine legal documents that may include a combination of the following:
- notices,
- subpoenas,
- decisions,
- and orders.
QualificationsThe Legal Assistant I (Paralegal) will need to be able to:- process requests for hearings and track the cases through the Office of Administrative Hearings database;
- maintain an Administrative Hearing master calendar;
- schedule and coordinate hearings;
- receive emails and phone calls and answer questions;
- take and relay messages;
- greet hearing participants;
- respond to requests for information, including GRAMA;
- prepare basic legal orders;
- proofread legal orders;
- prepare mailings;
- provide office support.
The model candidate for this position is someone who:- has experience as a paralegal, legal secretary, or in another legal support staff role;
- is able to work independently and with other support staff;
- enjoys working in a small office environment;
- is able to maintain confidentiality;
- is detail-oriented and organized.
Supplemental Information- Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
