Thrive Proactive Health is hiring a Medical Billing Specialist to join our on-site Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) team in Virginia Beach. This is not a remote position.
We are looking for someone organized, detail-oriented, and confident navigating insurance claims, denials, and patient billing. This role is critical to the financial health of our multidisciplinary clinic and directly supports patient experience, provider success, and operational performance.

The Role
As a Medical Billing Specialist, you will help manage the full claims cycle - from clean submission to final payment - across multiple service lines including Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, and Massage. You will work closely with our front-end team, providers, and billing partners to ensure accurate claims processing, timely follow-up, and a clear financial experience for patients.
Key Responsibilities
Insurance & Eligibility Verification
  • Verify benefits and eligibility
  • Obtain referrals and pre-authorizations as needed

Claims Management
  • Submit clean claims and corrected claims
  • Track and follow up on unpaid or delayed claims
  • Investigate and appeal denials

Denials & Accounts Receivable
  • Manage A/R aging reports
  • Resolve underpayments and discrepancies
  • Coordinate collection efforts as needed

Payment Processing
  • Post payments, adjustments, refunds, and transfers of responsibility accurately

Patient Financial Communication
  • Assist patients with billing questions
  • Set up payment plans
  • Manage monthly statements

Credentialing & Enrollment Support
  • Support EDI, EFT, ERA enrollments
  • Assist with payer updates and contract documentation

Compliance
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and payer regulatory standards
  • Ensure billing documentation aligns with required guidelines

  • Prior medical billing experience preferred (we will train the right candidate with strong aptitude)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Comfortable working in EHR systems, clearinghouses, payer portals, and spreadsheets
