Job description

Primary Function:
The primary responsibilities of the EDI Manager include leading the strategy, design, implementation, and support of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) solutions that enable reliable, secure exchange of business transactions with customers, vendors, and trading partners. This role oversees day-to-day EDI operations, ensures compliance with required standards (e.g., X12/EDIFACT), manages integrations with internal systems, and drives continuous improvement through monitoring, issue resolution, and process optimization. In addition, the EDI Manager is expected to collaborate effectively with application development, infrastructure, security, operations, and external partners to deliver high-quality integrations in a fast-paced environment.
Job Scope and Major Responsibilities:

  1. Leads EDI operations and delivery, including onboarding trading partners, implementing new transaction sets, and supporting production interfaces.
  2. Manages the end-to-end EDI lifecycle (requirements, mapping/specification, development, testing, deployment, and post-production support).
  3. Ensures compliance with applicable EDI standards and partner implementation guides (e.g., ANSI X12, EDIFACT), including versioning and change management.
  4. Designs and governs EDI mapping rules, translation specifications, and data validation controls to ensure accuracy and integrity of exchanged data.
  5. Monitors EDI transaction flow, acknowledgements, and exception queues; performs root cause analysis and coordinates timely resolution with internal teams and trading partners.
  6. Owns EDI connectivity and communications protocols (e.g., AS2, SFTP, VAN) and partners with security/infrastructure teams to maintain secure, reliable transport.
  7. Partners with application, ERP, and data teams to integrate EDI with internal platforms; coordinates changes resulting from system upgrades, enhancements, and new products/services.
  8. Develops and maintains EDI documentation including trading partner profiles, mapping specifications, test plans, runbooks, and support procedures.
  9. Establishes operational metrics and reporting (volume, timeliness, error rates, SLA performance) and drives continuous improvement initiatives.
  10. Manages vendor relationships and EDI tools/platforms as applicable; evaluates new capabilities and recommends enhancements aligned to business needs.
  11. Ensures appropriate physical, administrative, and technical safeguards are followed when executing job functions, including the handling of sensitive and regulated data.

Performance Criteria:
This role is evaluated by the reliability, accuracy, and timeliness of EDI transaction processing, successful onboarding of trading partners, and adherence to defined service levels. Performance is also measured by effectiveness of issue management (triage, root cause analysis, and resolution), quality of documentation and controls, and proactive communication with internal stakeholders and external partners to prevent recurring defects and improve overall integration performance.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience implementing and supporting EDI integrations in a production environment.
  • Working knowledge of EDI standards and transactions (e.g., ANSI X12 and/or EDIFACT), acknowledgements, and partner implementation guides.
  • Experience with EDI translation/mapping tools and integration patterns; ability to create and maintain mapping specifications and test plans.
  • Experience with secure file transfer and communications protocols (e.g., AS2, SFTP, VAN) and basic troubleshooting of connectivity and certificate issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis, data validation, and production support triage.
  • Experience in healthcare/pharmacy and familiarity with HIPAA/HITRUST requirements is a plus.
