Job description

MDW Associates is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented part-time Business Development Associate to support the identification, research, and tracking of federal government contracting opportunities. This part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week) works directly with the Director of Business Development to conduct market research, maintain opportunity pipelines, gather competitive intelligence, and support early-stage capture activities.

This role is ideal for an individual with strong analytical and organizational skills who is interested in federal contracting, business development, and growth strategy within the government services sector.

The Business Development Associate may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties:

  • Research and monitor federal procurement opportunities, including RFIs, Sources Sought Notices, Draft RFPs, Solicitations, Recompetes, and Award Notices.
  • Utilize government and industry resources such as SAM.gov, USAspending.gov, FPDS, GovWin, and other available market intelligence tools.
  • Analyze opportunities for customer requirements, incumbent contractors, contract vehicles, set-aside status, procurement timelines, and strategic fit.
  • Prepare concise opportunity summaries and recommendations for leadership review.
  • Maintain and update business development pipeline data, reports, and tracking systems.
  • Track upcoming contract expirations and recompete opportunities aligned with MDW's strategic growth objectives.
  • Conduct customer, agency, competitor, and teaming partner research.
  • Support early capture planning activities, bid/no-bid reviews, and business development meetings.
  • Assist in maintaining business development resources, including customer profiles, opportunity files, contract vehicle information, and past performance records.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather information needed for opportunity assessments and capture planning.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Strong research, writing, organization, and analytical skills
  • Ability to summarize complex information clearly and concisely
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, track details, and follow through on assigned tasks
  • Interest in federal contracting, business development, capture management, market research, or government procurement
  • Professional communication skills and ability to work with senior leadership, program managers, and proposal/capture personnel
  • Ability to handle sensitive business information with discretion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting a federal contractor, proposal team, business development team, capture team, or program management office.
  • Familiarity with GovCon tools such as SAM.gov, USAspending.gov, FPDS, Deltek GovWin, Bloomberg Government, GovTribe, GSA eBuy, or agency forecast sites.
  • Understanding of common federal procurement terms, including RFI, RFQ, RFP, sources sought, IDIQ, BPA, task order, NAICS, PSC, set-aside, incumbent, recompete, and contract vehicle.
  • Experience conducting market research, competitor research, or public-sector opportunity tracking.
  • Experience maintaining pipeline data in Excel, SharePoint, CRM tools, or similar tracking systems.
  • Familiarity with DoD, NASA, DHS, OSD, MDA, DARPA, or other federal agency environments is a plus.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred (or equivalent experience/certifications).
