This is a Part-Time position!
This is a special opportunity for a career with a growing and fast-paced transit company proudly serving the City of Durham.
  • Guaranteed minimum of 28 hours of work per week with the opportunity for additional hours based on your availability.
  • Opportunity for full benefits if you work at least 30 hours per week.
  • Full training provided in order to obtain your CDL and required endorsements.
    • Training consists of both behind the wheel and classroom training of at least 160 to 240 hours.
    • Successfully passing the CDL Permit, and subsequent license is a requirement in order to continue employment.
(All applicants without at least a CDL Permit must acknowledge that they understand obtaining a CDL Permit within the first 7 days of employment (training will be provided) and subsequently obtaining their CDL prior to completing the initial training period is a job requirement.)

Durham City Transit Company dba GoDurham is an essential business, and we are currently recruiting for Bus Operators. This position is responsible for transporting passengers throughout Durham according to set times and schedules. Duties involve the ability to operate a bus in a safe, reliable, and professional manner while providing excellent customer service, assistance with compassion, and being helpful to all passengers.
Safety is our top priority, and all drivers will be provided the necessary protective equipment to perform their job in accordance with CDC Guidelines.

  • Starting hourly pay is $16.85 per hour. Hourly rate increases to $18.05 at 6 months of service.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Abides by all safety, federal transit requirements, traffic regulations/laws as well as company policy/procedures.
  • Properly completes all required paperwork to include manifests, pre/post-inspection checks, accident reports, and other applicable forms/reports. Uses sound judgment in following dispatch instructions, being able to recognize, create, and follow logical sequences for pick-up and drop-off of passengers in an efficient manner.
  • Attends training classes with successful completion.
  • Answers passenger questions politely and accurately, to include questions about service area, eligibility requirements, and fares.
  • Ensures passengers' ride is comfortable and safe.
  • Provides assistance to individuals as needed.
  • Keeps current on the operation of all service routes.
Experience:
The successful candidate must be able to obtain a valid CDL Permit within 7 business days of class start and subsequently obtain a valid CDL prior to the completion of the full training class with a passenger endorsement and be able to maintain a DOT card.
We prefer six years driving experience, the possession of a good driving record, and the ability to drive in all types of adverse weather is required. Because we provide an integral service to the public, our operators are expected to report to work during Adverse Weather conditions and sometimes work split shifts. Prior bus or heavy vehicle driving experience preferred. All successful candidates must first pass a drug screening and criminal background check.
